The Coffee Pot Question

Yesterday I showed you my three FQs of Melody Miller coffee pots. I love them, but according to Annie at The Village Haberdashery they are the least popular according to sales figures. This surprised me so I ask you this - If you had a FQ of the coffee pots what would you make with it? How about if you had this FQ?

I know what I am doing with one of my FQs. But I'm not telling. I am willing to pop this one in the post to one of you if you have a pressing need to make something spectacular. So tell me, what would you do? (Shhhh! This is a quiet little share the bounty thing, not a g*veaway so don't go telling anyone. It is just between us, okay. I'll get the girls to help me pick one of the ideas, if there is more than one suggested, in a couple of days and, if I don't already have your address, I'll be asking for it.)

Meanwhile, between realising that you need to have more food in the house when adding a full grown male into the equation for week day catering, and all the usual 'stuff', I've been doing a little bit more sewing. Now, there's a surprise!

I cut and attached the binding to yesterday's project. Now it just needs hand sewing down on the back.

Then I started making a birthday present for my mum. I made her and my stepdad a cushion with Etchings scraps at Christmas and though I was not sure if it was good enough, they loved it. And it worked really well with their sitting room decor. So she asked for another cushion. Similar to the one I made. The problem being that the Etchings stash was near obliterated over the Christmas sew-a-thon. I dug about and found a little of the red on red text print - which I have tried to buy more of from my LQS but is no longer in stock. I dug around some more and decided that this would work with my Sunkissed yardage. I hope that this cushion top looks okay next to the first one.

I am all basted and ready to quilt, but a little research showed me that this is not a simple case of stippling my way from one side to the other. No, to match the other cushion I need to get out the needle and thread.

That's my evening taken care of then. One binding to sew and lots of lovely hand quilting to do. We leave for my mum's on Sunday so plenty of time to get this completed before our departure.

Next on the agenda is my Brit Bee block for March. I was trying to catch up on my blog reading earlier and saw this block on Laura Jane's blog. It was the reminder I needed that the bee block was due and that other people in our bee are way more adept at paper piecing than I am. As in they have done paper piecing and I haven't. I have a very steep learning curve coming up. Thank goodness I have been reading Katy's posts for her FPPFTT series avidly and hopefully will have picked up some handy dandy information to keep me from buggering it up completely.

  1. I'm sure you won't make a mess of your paper piecing. It's one of my favourite ways to patchwork, although I don't do nearly as much of it as I'd like. Interested to see what your citrus stripes become - they are just lovely and fresh and zingy on a fabulous spring day like today! (Sadly we are treasuring this weather in NI as it could well turn out to be our one week of summer for the year!)

  3. I've never tried paper piecing, apart from a few Hexagons which I quite enjoyed. I just haven't got the patience.

How about a nice mug rug, or perhaps a table mat or two?

  4. I'd make a snuggle jacket for my Boden coffee pot. Save it going cold too fast on a lazy Sunday morning. Good luck with the paper piecing - I'm attempting a pp kitchen mixer!

  5. I get confused about the different types of piecing! I like the sort in the new york beauty QAL.
I would make a jacket for my cafetiere, and mini jackets (and hats?!) for my tea caddies!

  7. I ordered some fabric a while back (not melody miller, I don't think) with retro coffee pots on and I really don't know what I want to make with it, just that I had to buy it, so I will be useless at answering your question.

  8. I wish you'd tell me more about yesterday's project. It's so pretty!

  9. I would make a zipper pouch to put my new MP3 player, earphones and USB cable in. The cable and earphones always get thrown in a drawer and get mixed up so I want to keep these all together. Hmmm coffee and music sounds right to me and maybe a little chocolate as well :-)

  10. Have a lovely evening with that hand-sewing extravaganza!
With the FQ I would make my sister and brother-in-law a little table mat and a pair of coasters - they are the biggest coffee lovers I know - I would also want to hand deliver it to NZ, as they are too far away :(

  11. I would probably use it to make a basket for all my K Cups. Don't know if you know what those are... They are individual servings of coffee used with a Keurig Brewing Machine. Finding storage for those buggers is a pain so I would make a basket!

  12. The coffee pots are fab! I've never seen them before! how about a (coffee) mug rug? or a zippered pouch?

  13. I am thinking I would make myself one of those handy little hot pad thingys that go around your traveling cups to keep you from burning yourself when ordering coffee to go. I sure could have used one of those when traveling to Michigan. What are those things called? I have one I got in a swap by my daughter swiped it!

I can't wait to see your mom's cushion.

  14. Good luck with your hand sewing and your March block...paper piecing is something I`m going to have to learn fast for the ST Bee! I think you have enough ideas for that lovely coffee pot fabric but if I had it, I would either knock up a couple of matching mug rugs for my mummy who is so good to me or use it in a runner for our rather drab kitchen table!

  15. Get stuck into the paper piecing, just make sure the girls arent in earshot.... lol I'd make 2 little sleeves for my latte glasses :-)

  16. The coffee pot fabric is great! I would make either two new placemats or a table runner! Perfect for Mr & I in a Melbourne autumn/winter! Happy stitching- the new cushion will be beautiful with your lovely stitches.

  17. A bit obvious, but I think I would make the coffee pot fabric into a cafetiere cover - original, huh?

  18. I can't wait to see your paper piecing. I've not tried it myself as I'm a little wussy and trying to pluck up the courage - although I really want to get stuff I've already started finished, before I start making new stuff ;-)

Oh and I'd use the fabric to make what Chief calls a Brew Kit - a decent sized receptacle to put in tea, coffee and other drinks sachets to travel with because hotels never have enough of what you want!

  19. There have been many good ideas given and I don't think that I can better them! Looking forward to seeing your paper piecing. Di xo

  20. You're on a roll with the cushions Susan. Cant wait to see how this one turns out.

I love Isisjems idea for the fabric.

  21. I'd definitely make some coffee sleeves for my Starbucks run! Chai Tea Lattes all the way, yummy.

  22. Love the pillow and it will be beautiful stitched in the deep red. I like cafe lattes but they are always too hot to hold so I would use that cute fabric to make a wrap to go around the glass:)

  23. Love the simplicity of the cushion cover - the fabrics are lovely together. You'll love foundation piecing once you get past the first 2 pieces of fabric! The sharp edges finish is always so satisfying! Jxo

  24. I love the little coffee pots and expect I will have to buy some. I would make that piece into a zipper pouch or a tote bag as it is not a good colour for kitchen things at my house. It would be great carried to the coffee shop with some knitting inside so that I could sit and drink coffee and knit.

  25. I reckon the coffee pot fabric would make a great trim for an apron, don't you?!

  26. My kitchen is lavender and green, so I would make something for there. Maybe a little wallhanging. Oh oh, I know - I could make some bottle aprons from Lori Holt's tutorial. But instead, I could enlarge it and make a blender apron! Wouldn't that be cute?

  27. Fabric is cute! How about a picnic tote that opens out to make a seat for two - once emptied of course!

  28. Thanks for linking to my block :-)

I think that FQ is crying out to be some coffee or tea related thing. A tea cozy, or a cup warmer, or a caffetiere (sp?) jacket thingy.

  29. I don't have a clue what I would do with it, I have a fq in the darker colour way that I am still pondering on :). Hope the paper piecing went well x

  30. Yay for relatives that know what pressies they want, so much easier than 'you choose' argh! Looks like it's going to be fab too, with the hand quilting.

As for the FQ, you need to find a worthier recipient lol

Good luck with the paper piecing, I know you can do it!

  31. I'd make a cafetiere jacket with the coffee pot fabric - something to keep my Sunday morning coffee nice and warm while I catch up with all the quilting blogs!
