... of two brothers it would be fundamentally wrong for me to let a milestone birthday go by without taking the subtle mickey of it. The brother I am gently prodding about his age does not read this blog. But I am sure he will like what I made him today.
It is going to be a cushion cover. I'm not quite finished. But after yesterday, today was a delight. I designed, cut, pieced, basted, quilted - machine and hand - all this afternoon. I only had to unpick stitches once. Miracle!
This is going to be a massive 22" square cushion. I am ever so pleased with it. Do you think I was subtle enough about the age thing?
Susan
My son was keen to celebrate his father's half-century - I think that hurt more!
ReplyDeleteSubtle as ever Susan!
I'm not sure he will notice the age thing, is he more observant than the usual guy? It's wonderful and will make a great large pillow for naps and such.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I'm sure he'll love it. Love the quilting and stitching! Jxo
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool! And subtle as a sledgehammer :-) he he he
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he will love it!
I just read your last post, you got there in the end, your stitch tease block looks wonderful!
And we are having stew and dumplings tonight :-)
Lovely; how old is he going to be?
ReplyDeletewhat a great cushion: love that stitching: I think he just might get the message!
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that what goes around comes around. You too will be 50 one day. I am sure your brother will love it especially for its subtlety.
ReplyDeleteCindy
That is wonderful. On my 40th Birthday my wife filled my office at work with black balloons and flowers. Yours is much more bright and shinny then what she did to me.

Wish I had thought of that for my brother's 70th last year (OMG 70th!!!) xxx
ReplyDeleteso glad you are back on track with your sewing xx I think your brother just might know how old he is xx
ReplyDeleteI think your brother will get the message and love it just the same!
ReplyDeleteMight just be subtle enough.... lol
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your output! You got ALL that done in one day!! It's fabulous! Tell him all your friends love it and I'm sure he'll be even more chuffed!!
ReplyDeletevery subtle, yeah...hope he doesn't have a complex about it!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure he's expecting nothing less, my dear :) This is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteFantastic gift...bet he will love it!
ReplyDeleteVery subtle! If your brother is anything like mine, there would be some serious retribution to pay!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, your older and better looking brother who DOES read read your blog lives in FEAR from this day forward!
ReplyDeleteBig (and Far Better Looking) Bro
I think it's subtle enough, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSee what a difference a glass or twenty of wine makes to your sewing abilities, just saying, after yesterday's effort!!!
Looks great! It's a sisters duty to wind up her brother(s), subtle as a sledgehammer :)
ReplyDeleteTurning 60 then? ;o)
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Love it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd say subtlety isnt your strong point. But I bet he is able to see the funny side of it.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like rubbing one of your family members noses in it....
ROTFLOL!!! I love that your other (better looking???) brother popped in for a word.LOL, very subtle...thinking other brother needs a full sized "50" quilt? LOL
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilting - if he turns it upside down he could pretend he's 5 or that it's his sports number!
ReplyDeleteAh ideas for my big bro who turns 50 in a couple of years!
ReplyDeletesurely he is not 50 :)))
ReplyDeleteIt's brill, Susan, love the quilting - just don't be offended if he puts it on the sofa face down...(or are you going to emblazon the back too?!) x
ReplyDeleteWell I think your bro will get the idea that he is getting older. Great quilting. Let us all know where he keeps it - hidden away or for all to see his age! Do xo
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you made the entire cushion cover in one day. My birthday is in July...60. Think what you can do with 4 months of sewing time? Hint, hint! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI really don't think he'll notice! The only thing is, you have to expect similar when you hit the big one!
ReplyDeleteWell... if you turn it around and look at it in the mirror... ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics you used - what are they?
I love it. Wish I had thought of doing that for my brothers. Good thing I still have one young enough to pester.
ReplyDeleteI am so very glad I am not your sibling!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope he likes it!!
ReplyDeleteMeheheh!
ReplyDeleteBut is this the part where I remind you I'll be making one of these for you soon? I'll be sure to make it bright and scrappy for you ;P
