The One About the Zipper

I did it! And I lived to tell the tale. Oh my word, it wasn't plain sailing and I sounded like the sailor I once was, but I did it. Woohoo!

Here's a quick summary of what I have done this afternoon.

I finished piecing, I layered and I basted.
I then did a quick stipple.
I never thought I would be able to say that a few years ago.
It just goes to show that anything is possible!
I found out I do own a zipper foot.
I got a number of feet for my machine and I don't have a clue what most of them are for.

I then promptly forgot to take any photos of my progress
because I was concentrating so hard.
So no sewing piccies.
No seam unpicking piccies. (Shame!)
And no zipper insertion piccies.

You are left with the final result.

It's a little bit wonky.
The zipper only looks 'invisible' from this angle.
And I learned - the hard way as per usual - that you shouldn't buy zippers
that are as long as the cushion is wide.
Harder to hide them when they are like this.
But you know what? I did it. I put a zipper in a cushion.
All by myself.
And it didn't make me cry.
Or lose my mind with aggravation.
That's kind of cool (in my not so cool world).

I made a zippered cushion!
I'm ever so happy.

  1. Congratulations!
    From a fellow zipaphobic.

  2. Congratulations! Welcome to the 'we're not scared of zips' club! ;o)

  3. Wahoo!! Well done! Are you no longer scared of zippers now?

  4. congratulations it looks lovely and so what if it is wonky gives it character :))

  5. Well done Susan! You tackled the beast and won!

  6. Looks pretty good to me! I have done yet another envelope back - but maybe, just maybe, I will do a zippy one next . . .

  9. Conquered zippers and what is next!?? The world??

  10. Woo Hoo!!! Well done, its absolutely lovely :-)

  11. It looks brill, well done you, shall i call you Susan, queen of zips?!

  12. Aha! Looks very like the zipper in my star cushion :-) well done looks like a good job!

  13. I'm so happy you did this and survived. Probably just as well you attempted this while the girls were at Brownie camp since the sailor in you made an appearance. But I'm so thrilled for you- YOU DID IT! And it looks fabulous!

  14. I love your pillow! I am not brave enough to try doing a zipper yet ...

  15. Woohoo! Well done you! It looks great! Many more zippered cushions to come then? Jxo

  16. YAY FOR YOU!!!! Zipper pouch here you come now aye? (when you have the zip that is) haha
Looks like you did a great job! And don't beat yourself up about it not being invisible. There are quite a few different types of zips available and to me it does not like you used the "invisible" kind...
Anyway it's good that you can see it - because now everybody knows you can sew a zipper. Flaunt it baby!! LOL...

  17. yay, well done:told you you could do it: now think of all the zipper related things you can make!

  18. Woo hoo! The cushion looks great!
