Oh the Blessed Sound of Quiet

We are on the countdown now. The girls finish school on Friday. I am optimistically hoping that they will have this current behaviour back under wraps for the holidays. They do tend to get along for the most part, and I am really hoping that will return shortly. With lie ins and laziness, and no running here, there and everywhere they can relax (as can I) and we can all get along together again. Fingers crossed.

Far be it for me to waste one of the remaining days of school then. I have been happily busy today. All the stars in the wonky star quilt are perle cotton stitched. Now I am throwing a question out to everyone, and Tinca - the future owner of this quilt - in particular. I plan on stippling the rest of the quilt to finish the quilting process. Should I do it in plain white thread that blends into the background or should I get a bright variegated thread that will liven up the white spaces? I am tending towards the variegated thread but don't know if it will be too much. Opinions please.

I got my signature block made for my July Bee blocks. So now that can be packaged up and posted off to Judith. I also did another P51 block as we needed several more to get P51 up to size. I made the signature block and that too can be packaged and posted. P51 cannot be discussed, sorry folks. Other than showing you the blocks that I made you will have to wait for more information in the not too distant future.

In an effort to clear the decks of all unfinished projects I have been working on making the backing for my second HST cushion for the ugly sofa. I am also cutting the binding for the Pips Pinwheels because I have not been able to make up my mind whether or not to add more quilting so have decided to just get on with it and bind the quilt. The way it is quilted means that if I want to do more hand stitching I will be able to do so even after it is bound.

I will see if Emily wants to cut the pattern pieces and fabric for her summer top when she gets home after school, though time will be limited as it will be Helen's last tap dance class of the summer tonight. Before the week is done I want hope to be able to look at my little list of things in progress and find it has shrunk significantly and my completed projects list has grown proportionately.

I am highly satisfied with my progress today. It is a nice feeling to sit peacefully and sew, no interruptions, no noise, nothing niggling at me to be given priority to be done instead. (Because I have become a master at ignoring the housework.) Just me and the gentle sound of the sewing machine. Oh, and me muttering when I finished one signature block only to realise that I misspelled the last word on it!!

  1. My vote is for white stippling (?), I love the blank space and wouldn't want the stars or their outlines to be lost - but what do I know!

  2. I'd go with white, also. Your hand stitching looks wonderful. It's going to be one awesome quilt.

  3. I'd go with white too. Must ask, what word did you misspell on your siggy? Your name or Brit Bee?! :-P
Hope you get many more peaceful sewing opportunites :-)

  4. White gets my vote too, just so as not to outshine the stars and their perle cotton outlines, nut hey it's not my quilt and I'm sure you'll do a great job whatever you decide. Happy list reducing!

  5. I'm going with the masses and saying white too...you don't want anything that is going to compete with that gorgeous hand stitching!

  6. Sounds like you have had a lovely day. I say go with the white, I think that will stick out much more than the colourful thread

  7. Don't have enough experience of machine quilting to say either way! Sorry! Glad you got peace & quiet and hope it lasts...? I find I can ignore quite a lot with the radio on and the sewing machine purring.

  8. My gut tells me (chocolate) sorry, white stippling - I think coloured thread would take away from the lovely handstitching round the stars. Jxo

  10. Who am I to argue? The stars are the stars, so to speak.

  11. I also vote white. Those lovely stars & your beautiful stitching should be the feature, it would be a shame to detract from them.
    Nice bee block too!!

  12. I'm also voting for white...could you try laying some of the variegated thread in a stippling pattern to get more of an idea of what it would look like? Or draw (either in real life or on the computer) over an image of a section?
