She wasn't up to random placement of the chocolates. She needed more control. But I think she did a brilliant job, Helen is happy and Emily didn't let any of those little buttons go to waste.
The cake will be cut tonight. Just so I can enjoy the pleasure of four girls hyped up on sugar at bedtime. Obviously I have no sense of self preservation. Meanwhile we have an afternoon at the cinema and then Pizza Express. I am all set to go.
If you don't hear from me for several days then I didn't survive the experience, or it really was Death by Chocolate.
Oh my. Well, it only happens once a year, right? The cake looks fun and here's hoping everyone survives the night!ReplyDelete
ROFL, love the button tower! Have a fun day...ReplyDelete
The tower of chocolate buttons was an inspired idea! You definitely don't want any of them to go to waste.ReplyDelete
I'm still not sure whether I would ever melt a Terry's chocolate orange into icing. They cost a fortune here!
Fab cake and very inspired putting the chocolate button tower on there too. We are off out for lunch today, to celebrate the fact that I am not revising!ReplyDelete
It was a pleasure knowing you! Sniff!ReplyDelete
Wow, what a way to go though!ReplyDelete
WHAT a cake!! I am surprised anyone is upright !!ReplyDelete
Oh that's my kind of cake...err what time you cutting it?????ReplyDelete
brilliant cake enjoy !!ReplyDelete
My son thinks that is a totally cool chocolate cake with a great tower in the middle! Enjoy the sugar fest and, you know what they say, Susan? If you can't beat them later, JOIN THEM!ReplyDelete
Ha ha, I think I might have put in half the choc orange and kept the rest for myself! I might be tempted to munch a little dark choc along with the cake - just to take away a bit of sweetness :)ReplyDelete
Emily's done a great job of decorating the cake.
Have a fun time today. I've only recently discovered the joys of Pizza Express :)
Save me a bit! Have fun! JxoReplyDelete
You're a fun Mom!ReplyDelete
LOL that cake brings back all too vivid memories of the year my mother let my friends and I decorate my birthday cake with royal icing and make stuff from it. I ate so much that that night I was sick.ReplyDelete
I have NEVER eaten royal icing since.
Lets hope your girls have better sense than I :)
Enjoy your weekend
lol - i'm just imagining you all running around like loonies on speed from all the sugar - good job you saved the cake for AFTER the moviesReplyDelete
Love it! It remonds me of a chocolate sand castle.ReplyDelete
Send me a slice - nowwwwwwwwwwwww!ReplyDelete
Happy Birthday, Helen. The cake looks yummy for sure with all that chocolate.ReplyDelete
Wow.lok at that button tower,oh yum.ReplyDelete
That frosting sounds like it right up my alley. I love me some sweet frosting. The decorating of that cake is inspired ;-)ReplyDelete
oh my goodness that cake looks spectacular!ReplyDelete
I hope you have a selections of buckets at the ready!!ReplyDelete
Looks great though!!
Save me a piece of cake. It's looks pretty darn spectacular.ReplyDelete
The one saving grace is that while the girls are awake it's going to be AWFUL but when they crash down off that sugar high they're going to be comatose. I hope you made fruit salad or something equally healthy for breakfast!
The cake looks amazing! Helen did a wonderful job :-) It reminds me of a cake I made for my son http://stitchingupastorm.blogspot.com/2010/10/row-ho-ho.htmlReplyDelete
also, just read about the origins of your mystery FQ. LOL!
Happy Birthday to Helen!ReplyDelete
Your description of the icing as being so sweet that it's vile had me chuckling. Reminds me of one birthday cake I made and used SKOR bar bits in between the layers of cake and again on top of the frosting. It was waaaaaay too sweet and we had to scraped it off so we could enjoy the homemade cake without gagging from the sugar overload. Good thing birthday cakes are only once a year... your girls may have enough of a sugar buzz from this to last until next year. ;o)
Emily did an amazing job of decorating! Did you survive? Did you get any sleep?! And...have they all gone home yet?!ReplyDelete
in the (highly unlikely) event that the white chocolate tower proves too much for your girls, send over our way :)...have fun today, and happy birthday to Helen xReplyDelete
They will bounce for a minute and then crash and burn. Oh the quiet that will commence when the crash and burn happens. What movie will you see?ReplyDelete
Just catching up on my google reader during a break - after a very busy weekend of visitors - but I had to comment.ReplyDelete
This cake looks AMAZING! You surely are the queen of baking! The kids must have been gobsmacked by the sight of that! Have a good week!
