Do you have those times where you come up with an idea and think it is fairly basic? And then it is for a swap and your partner gives the plan her full approval? So you proceed with said plan? I'm right there today. And my plan wasn't as easy as I thought. I am starting to see the thrill of improv piecing.
Because today I started work on my For the Love of Solids swap item.
|
I cut 5.5" squares.
Lots of them. |
|
I sewed them into HSTs.
Pressing the seams open to aid the next step. |
|
Which was cutting them with the Drunkard's Path die.
And therein lay the problem. |
|
Because I had to cut them one by one,
trying to match the seam to the corners of the block.
It was a right bitch of a job! |
|
I had a varied success rate! |
|
I then did a mock up of how I plan on doing the cushion cover for the swap. |
But I found out something. Playing with the layout of these pieces is much like playing with the layout of HSTs for me and we all know how much entertainment I can get from that!
|
This was the other possibility that I liked for my partner,
but I prefer the original idea I think. |
Then the real fun began because I found out that playing with the other half of the DP blocks was way more amusing. Please ignore the neutrals in the background as they have not been cut yet and therefore are laid out a little haphazardly.
|
Circles? |
|
Staggered circles? |
|
I like this one. |
|
But I love this one!
Thinking this might be a possibility to make for me! |
As you can tell I got some time in my sewing space today. My mum left. I would usually be more down about it but I am going up to see her in less than two weeks, and then taking the girls during the Easter break. So not a big long time before we see each other again. Now I have three more days before my best friend arrives for me to get more done on the FTLOS swap and Mouthy Stitches - only we are out most of tomorrow, and half of Wednesday. Not a problem, surely!

Oh, I love it!! It might have been a swine to cut but it was well worth the effort! And I love the one made from the leftovers - you could make either option three or four and send it to me, unless your swap partner is marvellously lucky and is getting a reversible cushion?
ReplyDeleteI love the one that looks like bow ties on the tilt!!
ReplyDeleteAh, the endless possibilities of HSTs. The colours you have chosen are perfect and your partner is sure to be thrilled. Happy to hear you will see your mum soon. My mum arrives in 3 weeks. Yippee.
ReplyDeleteOoohhh! Yes, yes, and yes! I have never thought of doing a DP this way. Great inspiration!

ReplyDeleteWowee you are a crazy woman in what you attempt sometimes. Looks absolutely spectacular though!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that it took me a long time to figure out the difference between 1 & 2. But that's probably because I'm on my phone.
And no surprises really there but I'm with my twinnie above and would have to say staggered circles all the way...
