Am I the only one who gets a wee bit of joy witnessing one child snatch from the other, and then get kicked in the butt for revenge? It's great to know both sides of the story before they come running so that I can pre-empt them with the facts. It is always best when they don't realise I have actually been a silent witness.
Am I the only one who is a bit off with the Farmer and has been avoiding him rigourously? But I tackled a couple more blocks this afternoon. It is silly not enjoying the process much when I do like the resulting blocks. Must be because they are so small and fiddly. I am a simple soul who likes bigger, more instant results. Slowly, slowly I am getting there though. Does anyone know how many blocks we should technically have completed by now?
Am I the only one who spends time and energy making these blocks, concentrates and then when she finishes ironing the finished block sees this -
But wait, it gets better. Because I diligently unpicked the block and put it back together - properly though?
I blame the fumes from the cleaning products I used in the bathroom! Third time lucky. It had to be luck because I think we have firmly established that it wasn't skill today!

It wasn't all bad because I did manage to do this block in one attempt. Small miracle there!
No. 64 - Peace and Plenty (OMG! I am so annoyed. I just looked and realised I did this one wrong too! Unbelievable!!) |
Susan
You are hilarious!!! 10/10 for Tenacity! And no, you most certainly aren't the only one!! Jxo
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely not the only one! Thanks for sharing the good and the bad - it helps me to know you're human too!
ReplyDeleteNope, that pretty much sums up some of my days too! Especially the housework bit! lol :)
ReplyDeleteMy dear, this is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Put down the seam ripper and walk away.
ReplyDeleteBut the colours and the fabrics are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteNo not on your own at all. There is a whole crowd of us but maybe we are not so honest!! And sometimes I leave aberrations in and pretend I meant to do it that way all along...!
Yep, totally just you, those others are just trying to be nice!
ReplyDeleteI can relate! Today I have had a mad blitz on the house, especially the conservatory where I do all my sewing. Over the summer I have not put any fabric away, knowing that I would be using it every day. it was quite sad putting it away today.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have definately done the whole block thing - on the mystery quilt, I did exactly the same, ended up redoing about 6 times :-)
Oh no, definitely not a good sewing day - I'd give up now or it may get worse...I once stitched a whole row of blocks the wrong way (rotated by 90 deg) and then stitched it to the previous row without noticing it was wrong...what makes it worse is that I was hand piecing (more time to discover the error, apparently) and I still failed to notice that I was matching a red strip with a blue strip (rather than another red on) - I was SO annoyed with myself when I eventually noticed! Hope Tuesday is a better stitching day...
ReplyDeleteHa, so I'm not the only one who finishes blocks only to discover they don't look exactly like they should :)
ReplyDeleteBut I actually like your second attempt at Railroad.
I'm right there with ya on the house-mess thing-- although it's going to take me more than one day to rectify the situation. The kids start school next week and then I'll have some undisturbed time to organize and tidy up-- can't wait! I'm so glad I'm not alone! Yes, I've had days like that with quilting-- but lately I haven't been getting much (any) quilting done-- but again, once the kids are back in school, I'll have a little more time to spend at my sewing table-- hurray! Hoping that you have a better afternoon/evening with the quilting (or take a break and resume tomorrow). Thanks for "keeping it real"
ReplyDeleteYou are most definitely not the only one! I am ignoring housework and the fact my beige living room carpet looks like it's multicoloured thanks to all the extra thread and lint gathering on it. I too have ignored the farmer preferring a fling with a travelling tea drinking steampunk of a hexie quilt. And as for the mistake in your block if I make a mistake once I generally keep making. Like the time I was sewing a band of contrasting fabric to a stocking and I kept unpicking and sewing it wrong.
ReplyDeleteoh, I am giggling away here, you are so funny! We all definitely have days like that. I highly recommend doing as little cleaning as possible, those fumes are bad for your brain. And I looked at your 2nd block for ages wondering why I didn't get it before I saw your comment underneath. Seriously, sharing the frustrations is one of my fave bits of blogging!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I am not the only one who makes mistakes! And we are so busy with the B&B and keeping that clean and tidy, that the family part of the house most definitely gets neglected.
ReplyDeletePomona x
Must have been your other brother, I would never had said such a nasty thing.
ReplyDeleteYour brother (the nice one)
I am in awe of anyone who can make these tiny blocks never mind someone who has the patience to make a block 3 times! (I will deny it if asked but love it when my shy nephew stands up to my adorable but slightly dominant niece!!)
ReplyDeleteDon't you listen to evil Hadley - we all have days like that, but yours WAS funny!!
ReplyDeleteI'm piggy snorting over my morning coffee. We are soul sisters for sure! I don't think I've ever made a quilt without stuffing it up somehow. It's become part of the process (along with the ritual of using my unpick-er!)
ReplyDeleteAnd that my friend is why I'm not doing this particular quilt along.
I absolutely LOVE you! Thats the best laugh I've had in ages :-) Thank you xxx
ReplyDeleteand you know you're not the only one!
Oh Susan, that is outright laugh out-loud stuff. So funny. I`m feeling guilty about your farmer`s wives blocks - I feel I may have gotten you into all this!
ReplyDeleteha ha - too funny - i'm with you all the way - and i can't give the excuse that it's summer here yet - gawd knows what the house will look like then!! (my dear sil informed me that dust bunnies used to be called slut's wool - personally, i prefer dust bunnies - sounds a little less slatternly)
ReplyDeleteWe are blitzing the house today too..must be something in the air :o)
ReplyDeleteYou are most definitely not the only one that get her blocks twisted...it is so easily done!
Sorry Susan, had to laugh at your misfortune! That is a bit of a bummer. Concentrate woman!
ReplyDeleteAnd no, you are definitely not the only one. At least you are attempting to clean house. Mine is a shit-tip.
I missed this post yesterday - but am so glad you sent me here! I laughed out loud (whilst at work trying to pretend I'm working!)
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely NOT the only one, I especialy love the joy of witnessing the squabble, and my house is a midden!
No you're definitely not the only one. I think I have had to unpick bits of at least half of my FWQAL blocks so far and I've only done 14!
ReplyDeleteAt least your points are all beautifully lining up. I've just abandoned one because i can't sew triangles and on this block you can't cheat with half square triangles. Oh well.
And I love your fabric choices!
