My dad is mad about boats. Has been all my life. It was known to drive me batty when I was a child. When I say 'mad about boats' I mean totally obsessed. I would never be like that...
... unless it was about fabric and quilting. Dad thinks that this sewing stuff is nice, but boring. I need to talk to him about the enforced looking at boats torture of my childhood.
The fish feature was for me. I couldn't do the mini without something quirky in it. So I embroidered the fish. I thought that a mermaid would have been a good idea but that was after the fact, and I was in love with me wee fish by then. Not sure if my artistic skills are up to a mermaid anyway.
I hope my dad likes looking upon this while he is at his computer, looking at boats online most likely.
Susan
Lovely mini. Isn't it interesting that we all exhibit traits of our parents. You may not be obsessive about boats but you have that obsessive gene! Lol! You are in good company. I hope that your dinner was a happy one. Di x
ReplyDeleteGosh, not that you have any affinity to boats or being off on the 7 seas or anything at all. It is a wonderful gift, I am sure he loves it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he loves it! What a great gift idea. Happy birthday, Papa of Susan :)
ReplyDeleteOh it looks brilliant, I bet he shows all his boaty mates xxx
ReplyDeleteShe looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteAnd the fish is just the bit of quirk it needs!
Its really lovely Susan! Bet your Dad was so chuffed :) My Dad was also mad about boats and I had to endure "let's go and see the boats" many many times when I was young. I'd give anything to go and see the boats with him now x
ReplyDeleteThe perfect gift for your boat loving dad! I can't imagine where you get your obsessive traits from! Jxo
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I bet he absolutely loves it! That fish is brilliant too
ReplyDeleteMy experience to date is that most men (in my life) feel like that! I'm sure your dad will love it Susan and the fish is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, your lucky Dad! Mine was/is obsessed by steam trains, he used to bore for england on then when we were kids, it was awful, and he still can! :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little mini! I hope he enjoys it too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift! You might also like Janet Clare's new book "hearty good wishes". I have a quilt on the go from it but all that is left is the hand stitching so it won't be finished anytime soon ha ha I don't suppose your Father is on Pinterest? I once stumbled upon hundreds of boat pin boards looking for a picture of a pirate ship.
ReplyDeletelovely wondered what it could be ,i love it !!
ReplyDeleteSweet mini! It's a very personal and thoughtful gift.
ReplyDeleteWell you know if you will enable his addiction like this, you only have yourself to blame ;o) The fishy is perfect in there
ReplyDeleteI think you should sit your dad down and make him look at the entirety of your stash. Then help you do a bit of online fabric shopping to boost your stash. And I'd LOVE the fishy too much to give it away!
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool - for a boat I mean, lol! Love the little fish.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely little quilt!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I bet he loves it, I do, and I'm not obsessive about boats! :o)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a perfect gift for your dad - the boat looks lovely and that little fishy is so cute.
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic and i'll bet your Dad is loving this :)
ReplyDeleteHe will be looking at the quilt and dream of sailing on this lovely blue sea and watching this gorgeous yellow fish out of the water!
ReplyDeleteObsessed? Nooooooo! I bet your dad loves it! I love the wee fishy, perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely mini, and I can see you have been looking at boats often (forced or not), the boat is great. The fish is adding a nice bit of cheerfulness, as is the sun peeking out...
ReplyDeleteI love it! Hope he had a lovely birthday!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely mini and I just adore that fish. As things come in 3's, I wonder what your 3rd fishy project will be??!
ReplyDeleteCompletely cute and such a personal gift. I bet your Dad loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely - that yacht looks brilliant (and I love the quirky fish). My husband has this thing for visiting lifeboat stations when we're on holiday - I can imagine my kids in years to come! Thinking about it, this might also be part of the reason why he is so keen to holiday in Cornwall regularly.....
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely thoughtful gift for your dad. Good to see obsessional traits passed down through the generations.
ReplyDeleteOh Susan this is super cute! The fish is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful - he must have loved it!
ReplyDeletethe little goldfish is the icing on the cake. Your dad better like it!
ReplyDeleteGod, your dad sounds like mine! Childhood holidays spent in coastal towns looking at yachts ... He travelled over half of Australia to buy the one he sails now. That's a big trip!
ReplyDeleteSounds like we both lived pages of the same childhood. My dad loved boats too! He even built on in our garage.
