I did it! I finished every last snail on the hexie quilt. Well, I think I did. I keep thinking that I will look at it at the very last minute and realise that I missed one in the middle. I dug deep today and concentrated and refused to let myself play with any other fabric because I have to get this quilt done.
The nice thing about doing quilting like this is you really can tackle it one hexie at a time. Somehow quilting in that limited space again and again works for me (even if I did get bored senseless towards the end). It helped me control my FMQ movements and the overall quilt movement.
And I love the overall effect of all those snails side by side.
I intend to do a little bit of hand quilting in the blues. Very limited, so it shouldn't take long. Then I need to square it up, bind it and make a hanging sleeve. I've two weeks to accomplish this in. Or I did, until I arranged for the girls and I to go see friends on the Isle of Wight so I need this all finished and in the post to the show organisers in eight days. I need to find more of that ability to focus that I had today.
My reward for getting this task done? More fabric of course. It arrived yesterday.
It arrived at 7:30am. Why do the delivery guys have to ring the bell about a dozen times? Why?!
Susan
Looking lovely!! Our delivery guys knock once then sprint away!! Not going to help in a house this long.
ReplyDeleteNearly nearly there, you've done both the long term and difficult stages! My tip would be make the sleeve before sewing the binding on, then with the same stitches you can attach the top of the sleeve to the binding which will cut down on the hand stitching :)
ReplyDeleteLove the texture, its beautiful.
ReplyDeleteit's looking fab!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! Well done! I don't care how many times they ring the bell if they're bringing fabric ;-)
ReplyDeleteThese snails give the quilt a lacy effect
ReplyDeleteIt is looking mighty fine missus!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely!!! The mushroom fabric is gorgeous, could you tell which line is?
ReplyDeleteThanks
*speechless* totally fabulous snail quilting quilt :)
ReplyDeleteWell deserved fabric shoppping. those snails looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will have the hand quilting done in no time, you're so good at it. I really love the texture of the snail quilting, though it still looks like roses to me... Well done, Susan, almost there!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! T/he delivery guys can ring as much as they like - it's in their handbook.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt looks amazing. Well done. Such pretty fabric to reward yourself with too - and of course delivery men ring the doorbell lots - if they are up, you need to be too:)
ReplyDeleteWell done you!!! They ring because they know how much you want the goodies!!
ReplyDeleteI bet you can do snails in your sleep now?! Such torture to receive pretties when you're not allowed/haven't got time to play wth them x
ReplyDeleteNice. I am trying to come up with a pink hexie liberty tana lawn design.
ReplyDeleteGoodness - what an early postie! Your quilting is divine girl! Jxo
ReplyDeleteGo you! I don't have a doorbell :oD
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing job of quilting! Beautiful fabrics .. guess the postman ringing a dozen times is the price you have to pay.
ReplyDeleteyeah those yodel guys arrive really early, before I am up so that means before the 8o clock news comes on. Even the flowers on mothers day came really early and nobody but me heard the doorbell. Husband was making brekkie but had the music on to loud, and daughter just didn't "hear"
ReplyDeleteps the hexies look brilliant, so tactile
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with the vintage happy line. Can't wait for it to arrive in the shop! 2 weeks and counting....
These snail spirals are great! I'm curious though- do you do each one separately or does one lead into the next? Doesn't that leave you with lots of ends to bury? However you do it, it is very effective!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! Such a lot of hard work, but worth it because of the fantastic finished result.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. This has to be my favourite quilting that I have ever seen on hexagons. Thanks for sharing. xx
ReplyDeleteit looks fantastic Susan, well done! I can't wait to see it all finished, I kind of feel like I've been sewing this with you!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous, Susan! Those blue hexies stand out beautifully. Next time you order something put a note on the bell to not to ring it before 9 AM :))))
ReplyDeleteCos they had heard you had a quilt to finish!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting on that looks so good, I want one too. It is going to look great at the show.
ReplyDeleteI think the delivery guys are hoping that you're still in bed and enjoy getting rudely awakened....thats my theory. They hammer on my door like they're trying to break in. Bastards.
ReplyDeleteThe snails look darling on those hexies. I am totally going to steal this idea and use it on a future project. Thank you for the inspiration!
I'm definitely going to try snails!
ReplyDeleteI love your snails!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! Love all the definition those tiny swirls give the top.
ReplyDeleteThis is so amazing! Love what you did here. I'm a hexie fanatic !
