It's Leaving, On a Jet Plane

Etchings is officially in the postal system and is no longer a member of this household. With the finish I also regained my love of this quilt. I do hope that the recipients love it too.

This is so completely different than any of my other quilts.
I have to admit I do like the back - imperfections and all.
The binding is in the blues and greys because that was all that was left from the jelly roll.
Funny how it took finishing to make me like it again.
No finished quilt photo shoot would be complete without one of it rolled up.

So now I am free to turn my hand to other projects with equally pressing deadlines. In pursuit of this I went by the quilt shop today to pick up some more wadding. I also had a £20 gift token for fabric. (Achieved from spending £200, but we won't talk about that!) I had a good look around and decided on this heavier weight to make a tote bag for John's sister.

And then I bought one wee FQ all for myself. Just because I have been so very, very good about my fabric buying for a very long time now. So it was a small treat, and the gift voucher covered most of the cost of the fabric. So that made it okay, right?!

Right then, I have a quilt to finish hand quilting, a tote bag to make, a cushion or two to construct, some small gifts to make, oh, and another quilt to get to the basting stage at the very least. Suppose I had better get away from the computer and get on with it then.

  1. It looks FAB finished! I really like the straight-line quilting and it makes a really great pattern on the back. Nice work!
PS I never like my projects until I'm finished them!
PPS I LOVE that bird cages fabric and I think I might have bought that recently for myself too. Well if I didn't then it definitely got put in a shopping cart during a virtual shopping trip with the intent of buying some soon.

  6. I am glad you like your quilt now it's done. I usually get to a stage when I feel overwhelmed by the make and then it's so wonderful to get to the finish it feels like each quilt is the best I've ever made!

I am envying your motivation. I have had a bag cut out for over a week now and it's just sat on the ironing board waiting for me to get it finished. I really need to because it's a present for someone and we're exchanging pressies on Sunday when we have a get together!!!

  22. Sometimes finishing a quilt and being able to see the whole thing and not just the parts you're working on changes your perspective of it again . I am doing a quilt like that at the moment. Ive always loved the Etchings quilt and I bet the lucky gift getters do too!

Your new fabric with the birdhouses is very very pretty (and I bought some of the Hometown range myself this week !)

  23. It is sooooo beautiful Susan!! I love those bits of red through it, a perfect amount. The back is just fantastic too.

I have just been through a similar journey with a quilt that was for a gift, although mine spent quite a bit of time in the cupboard until I could bring myself to get on with it! It is such a relief when you finish it and step back and realise that you love it after all. I try to convince myself that the tucks of fabric caught on the back are part of what makes it us; because we still offer it up as a token of our love and friendship. Sorry, hope I'm not getting too soppy!!
