... the newest additions to our family - Erica, Gertrude, Betty and Daydream Burrito. (That last name is not a typo, that is what Emily chose to name hers.
We now have chickens. They have settled into their new home peacefully. The back garden is being made less escapable (here's hoping!) and once they are used to us we will let them out the run to wander freely when we are home. This is an all new adventure for us so here's to a fox free future, and lots of eggs.
This is Gertrude. She is mine. We each got to pick one. Gertrude will lay blue eggs when she starts laying. Blue eggs have to taste better. Don't they?!

Loving the names!! My kids picked princess and Delila for boy rabbits. Luckily the the vets quite use to unusual names. Potentially four eggs a day, that's a lot of baking, yum yum. Sarah
ReplyDeleteChickens? Well its a step up from rodents, at least they give you eggs and yes blue are always the best eggs.
ReplyDeletehehehe, love Leannes comment. Good luck with that Missus. The last family holiday was so good you dont want another one then?! You will get the most amazing Eggs Benedict now though... jealous... lol
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I have six Grand-Chickens! Petunia, Penelope (and three other girlie names that start with "P") and Kevin. Yup. Best movie...Kevin from Up. Such a proud Nana!!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, our kids named our chooks Shanghai, Phuket and Bucket...for no apparent reason! Enjoy fresh eggs and endless baking to keep up to the egg supply - its all good, I have now mastered sponge cakes!

ReplyDeleteSo jealous, have been trying to persuade OH to get some chooks , but now I say do the " well Susan has some " and "it's not fair" tacks. It works for the kids!
ReplyDeleteOh happy hens!
ReplyDeleteOh that is just fabulous! We haven't bought eggs for years and years and have a lovely mixed flock of "girls". Our Americauna hens are called Hilary and Michelle. We view them as strong female role models for the rest of the flock!
ReplyDeleteWelcome tio the delights of chickens. I also have a Gertrude and blue eggs, great choice. The girls named this years chicks bilbo baggins, gollum and vandals.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I bet that there's no other chicken in the world called Daydream Burrito. Nothing better than fresh eggs straight from the chook!
