Jumping Through Hoops

I was a little at a loss of what to do as an extra for my #igminiswap partner, but then I went back and read her brief and she mentioned loving Christmas so I decided to do a wee seasonal hoop.

Then I got out the tissue paper and did a version of  my usual inept wrapping. (I really wish I was one of these people who could do pretty parcels, but I am so not!)

I popped in a couple of FQs and a little spool of lace. I do hope this is enough to make my partner happy because it scares me how much some people send as extras. I know they are not obligatory but I want to find the right balance between nothing and over the top. Hope this is it.

  1. Love that sweet hoop, Susan. What a lovely extra! I think your swap partner will be delighted with your parcel.

  2. cute tree. I think extras are optional, especially if shipping prices are already high, like they are in Canada.

  3. I would be most happy to receive a swap like this. Your mini is gorgeous. Yes, I agree finding that balance of the right amount to send is hard too.

  7. A fab package, and you're exactly right about the ridiculous amount of extras some people send, smacks of trying to buy favour to me. :o)

  8. Absolutely gorgeous package for lucky person, it is always lovely to have a couple of extras but if I had a huge package of things I would just feel guilty. I loathe wrapping but do try to wrap gifts tidily for those being posted, anybody local gets a present in a gift bag and tissue paper. x

  11. I wrapped all 18 of my extras beautifully and popped them in the mail nice and early… oh no, I didn't, that was in my dreams, theres a bundle of stuff waiting to be chucked in a box on the kitchen counter and a quilt label to still 'stick' on in the morning ;)

  12. I try to put in enough extra goodies that my less than stellar quilting will be overlooked. I like the fabric that you put in.

  13. I would be happy with the quilt and those extras. More than adequate. I like the clothes peg fabric especially.

  16. Of course your partner will love the parcel you send- it's perfect! The Christmas tree is lovely! (One reason I gave up on swaps was the stress to add enough extras! Besides, it becomes SO expensive!)

  17. I love your little Xmas tree hoop, and may steal your idea to practice some FMQ. I really wanted to comment on the extras though. As someone who has always had to send swaps overseas (either from Oz or the UK), adding extras in to a package (quite literally) has to be weighed up in terms of cost. I wonder how many participants realise how high they're setting the bar when they add in great piles of extras, and then send the package within the country. International participants just can't do that, so are we judged less generous in comparison? Or is it all in our own heads?

  18. Oh crap, I never remember to wrap mine, i just shove them in a ziploc bag!

  19. I'm a ziploc bag person too, I'm more concerned with ensuring it gets there in one piece, and I usually add tracking too rather than a ton of extras. If I add extras, I very carefully weigh the package to make sure it doesn't go over. Personally I would rather get an extra made item than random fabric and notions which I may or may not use.

  20. the mini quilt is great. I love the rainbow colors. when you do a swap like this, how much guidance is there with size, colors, patterns, etc. love the fussy cut blocks -- especially the house. I'm sure she'll love the package.

  24. I'm sure it is just right! Has it arrived?

  25. Completely agree with your sentiments about the extras you send in swaps. I just did my first on Instagram, the Aussie Christmas swap, and I didn't send near as much as I got sent. I wasn't stingy, but it may have seemed so. Wish organisers gave a monetary limit.
