The recipe called for round doughnuts but I found it was easier to fry the traditional hole in the middle ones, because they didn't keep flipping themselves over without my permission. Either way, they tasted great and came out way better than I expected. All credit to Emily, not me. I was just the kitchen help - deep fat fryer and cleaner upper.
Our little bit of Canadian(ish) food for today.
A very happy Canada Day to one and all.
Susan
Mmmmm, doughnuts.... :-)

Wishing you and your family a very happy Canada Day also! Sadly it's a rainy here in northern Alberta, but everyone will celebrate anyway. Your doughnuts look yummy! Homemade doughnuts are so much better than Tim's! Donna

ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day - I did think of you earlier when I realised! Wow at you both doing the doughnut thing. I'm a strictly doughnut eater not cooker ;-)
ReplyDeleteYum! I didn't know donuts are Canadian. Do the English have a similar treat?
ReplyDeletelove donuts and those look good
ReplyDeleteFunny how food says "home" isn't it? We live in the U.S. South, and I never realized how strong this connection was until my daughter was in college and wanted me to send her grits - a food we never ate at home! Your doughnuts look delicious!
ReplyDeleteBrighton Pier is good for fresh doughnuts - or was the last time I was there!
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day Miss Canadian Abroad!
Yummy donuts! Everyone goes mad for Krispy Kreme here but I have to stay away from any donut shop or I'd start to look like one in no time!
ReplyDeleteI do love Tim Horton's. Even their coffee is the best - beats Starbucks hands down!
ReplyDeleteOh dear I do believe you just convinced me to do a donut run before work !
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day to you :) Your Emily is very talented, doughnuts are not that easy.
ReplyDeleteWe actually have paczki i.e. round doughnuts (without a hole, but with rose hip jam) and we think of them as traditionally Polish ;) We eat heaps on Fat Thursday.
Happy Canada day Susan! We bought some from Krispy Kreme ones yesterday too just to help you celebrate:)
ReplyDeleteThose doughnuts look totally calorie free. Hope you have had a happy Canada day. Di x
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day! Shannon was just saying the other day how she would love to make doughnuts! These look yummy! What kind of frying oil did you use? Jxo
ReplyDeleteGod do I miss Tim Horton's! I would give my right arm for a cruller! I was hoping my little one would decide to be born today, but alas, I will not have a Canada Day baby. That would have been awesome!
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day to you. The sun is just setting here in Canada on Canada Day and I passed by several different Tim Hortons today in my travels. Emily's donuts look more delicious to me.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great Happy Canada Day, don't those doughnuts look yummy, I used to inject strawberry jam into my ball ones but always preferred the ring ones :)
ReplyDeleteA totally yummy 1000's of calories doughnut dessert is a brown derby, we used to love the wimpy ones but then made our own http://www.wimpy.uk.com/menu.asp?id=33&mm=1
Ooh, yum! That's really put me in the mood for a proper doughnut.... might just have to make some of these!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Canada Day...we ate maple syrup in honour of it...not neither as fancy as you :o) You are making me miss Timmy's...they are the best in the world!
ReplyDeleteI have never made doughnuts before but I love them. In Greece they're not very common but I can get used to anything this delicious!
ReplyDeleteWe were in Halifax a couple of years ago and from where we were standing there were three Timmys in sight! We Canadians sure are committed to our donuts! I'm glad you had a great Canada Day, eh!
ReplyDeletelooks yummo - a talent there - Happy Canada day to you!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm donuts !
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) Canada day! I found a doughnut on my walk on Monday - swallowed it whole before 'she' noticed what I was up to. I don't think the boy who left it on the grass while he was playing hide and seek was best pleased though - he spragged on me and I had to wear my lead all the way home...with a tummy full of doughnut - bliss!
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this delicious post?!
