Summer Sewing Contest

Ellison Lane Quilts

I have been checking out the quilts and other categories entered into Jennifer's - Ellison Lane Quilts - Summer Sewing Contest and there are some fabulous makes there. If you haven't had a look and feel you would prefer to while away some time rather than hoover, or some other pressing chore, then I highly recommend it.

Seeing as how I was busy looking I decided that really I should enter in a quilt too. It was fairly easy to decide on my latest finish, my Brit Bee quilt. Because I love it, and it was finished in summer - even if the weather says otherwise. Maybe this is a very British summer quilt. Not for picnicking or lying on the beach - but for snuggling under as the weather continues to suck. Though I must state categorically I would rather be sitting on it eating ice cream than huddled under it desperately trying to stay warm.

At 72" x 48" it is more than big enough to fit a few bottoms and a picnic basket on. I just have to look at it and the concentric circles of quilting, the vivid colours, the monochromatic back and those siggie blocks just make me smile. So, come on England, gives us some more summer so that I can take this outside and give it the airing it needs, and cover it with sandwich crumbs.

  1. I love everything about this quilt...the fabrics, the quilting, the backing and the little signature blocks! Very summery, even if the weather is not! I'm bragging but we had 17degrees in Melbourne today!

  23. I love it! I don't think that no sun equals no ice cream though...our family motto is 'it's never too cold for ice cream'!!
