I am trying hard to find my sewing mojo here but struggling. Not sure what is going on. After all that fun at the retreat I thought I would return home reinvigorated and full of new ideas. Which I am - I just can't seem to translate that into actually doing anything.
But I gave myself a mental slap today and pulled out the box with the birdie blocks in it and got on with it. I now have ten more to add to the flock.
I think part of my problem is not having a dedicated sewing space means whenever we have people over I have to pack away all my projects and make the dining room look like a dining room again. Now, while I love having people over I do wish there was a way I could have the best of both worlds. Cooking for family and friends, and have a sewing space too. But I can't so I shall do what I tell the girls to do at times - suck it up and get on with it.
Either way, my little flock of birds has expanded and I got back behind the foot pedal -so to speak - today. Yay!
Susan
Funny, but that always seems to happen to me after a great retreat or class. I guess my brain is so overloaded with inspiration it just needs to rest. Lol
ReplyDeleteI always have a tougher time with sewing when I have to put things away all the time. I love your birdie blocks...they are too cute.
ReplyDeleteI love these blocks, I remember reading about them when I first discovered your blog. Hope the mojo returns soon!
ReplyDeleteHas a habit of coming and going :) from what I can see the retreat was pretty packed so being a little low energy seems only natural.
ReplyDeleteI love the birdies...look for an email from me soon (but promise not to kill me). LOL hehehe
ReplyDeleteOh I have absolutely the same problem with the table and I hate it :(
ReplyDeleteThe birdies look lovely!
Love the new birdy blocks. Get some guest dinner trays and claim your sewing space ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy birds! Happy birds! I really like your idea for this quilt and can't wait to see them all together :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes a good slap works a treat, we heard today that planning permission has been granted for house extension which means I may not have to use the dining room table for ever!
ReplyDeleteGood work Susan - once you get you teeth into it I'm sure you will be raring to go!
ReplyDeleteSeems the mojo theif is rampant at the moment! Glad to see a 'slap' helped :) Birdies are lovely :) I keep saying a garden office will work wonders! :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you just need time to process the retreat (and to recover!)...the birdies are looking great though - I hope you aren't having 'tidy the dining room' type visitors over for a while and you can get stuck in to your sewing!
ReplyDeleteGreat job getting yourself in gear and making more adorable birdie blocks!
ReplyDeleteYour birdie blocks are becoming a good sized flock, Susan, and they are so cute!
ReplyDeleteYep, I bet the fleeing mojo has to do with needing time to mentally work through all the experiences of the retreat. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be back in full force before you know it!
I struggled with mojo loss after FQR too! I'm hoping a play with a bag pattern tonight will help me along...
ReplyDeleteI hope it starts flowing fast and freely for you soon
ReplyDeleteOh boy. Maybe it is a world wide mojo crisis. I found myself just wandering around my sewing room yesterday. touching fabric, looking at possible quilts, wandering somemore. Eeek! Must find mojo!
ReplyDeleteThose birds look fab - I think I recognise a few ;-) I actually found reading all the retreat posts has made me want to sew! Only today I was too tired.
ReplyDeleteOMG, we must be on the same wavelength, I'm a Canadian too but at home and I too have lost my mojo! In face, my last two blog posts were about this very subject!!
ReplyDeleteIf you find it, tell me where you found it!

I think I might have it, although Shay seems to have stolen half of blogland's mojo, she is on fire!
ReplyDeleteI really love your birdie blocks, that is going to be one awesome quilt.
Can't wait to see how you are going to put these together!
ReplyDeleteDunno where your mojo is but maybe its off having fun with mine...
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe there is only so much mojo in the creative world- someone else is sewing up a storm using some of yours! That individual will shortly finish using your share and you'll be away! The birdie blocks are looking good!
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks. You may already do this but have you tried having everything for each project in its own separate box so you can pull it out and go. Our hot desking areas mean you can't have anything on your desk so it's all in a box that you pick up each say, dock your laptop (or seeing machine) and go!!!
ReplyDeleteI expect you have been cooking wonderful meals and other creative stuff instead. I think the birds are so cute and I hope you keep playing with them.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your "slap" worked out well, will you do me next? :)
ReplyDelete1/2 a mojo is better than no mojo...I've lost inspiration. I want to sew but have too many other things on my mind. Your bird blocks are super
ReplyDeleteI think it must be lurking with mine somewhere too.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better I am staring down the barrel of losing my sewing space as well. After a month of sleepless nights that are showing no sign of letting up, it is looking appealing to turn it back into a screaming room ooops I mean bedroom for Miss Abigail so that the girls are no longer sharing a room :(
The world must be ending if you've lost your mojo! The birdie blocks are coming on a treat though

I love the birdie blocks. You probably just need to push through and then you'll find your mojo. My sewing area is in the dining room too and every time I sew I have to put everything away. My sewing machine stays out, my cutting board (?) and the ruler stay out too, but that's it. everything else getss put away. So I get where you're coming from.
ReplyDeleteI particularly love the block in the far right corner with the pink bird in a brown spotted frame. I sew on my bed and at the kitchen table. I have to admit that when I see craft rooms on people's blogs that I am filled with craft room envy!
ReplyDeleteYour bird blocks are lovely Susan! Especially LOVE the flamingo one! It is such fun!
ReplyDeleteI sew at the kitchen table and have to pack away everyday, so I know how you feel :-)
Seems to be a lot of Mojo loss going on lately ;-) Mind you if you were going to work on anything to lift the cockles, those bird blocks would be it! (Not actually sure that's the right analogy, but you know what I mean!)
ReplyDeleteI felt completely overwhelmed with inspiration after all the amazing projects on display at FQ retreat, and it's thrown me into complete indecision on my return. I guess we'll all slowly get back into it, and I think that flock of birds is the perfect way to start :)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! But I love your new members to the birdie family. jxo
ReplyDeleteyour mojo will return I am sure! love those birdie blocks so much. sometimes we just need a wee breather! x
ReplyDeleteThey look great! The mojo will return, start of summer means lazy days :) enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI really really can't wait to see what you do with these, exactly how long are you going to make us wait?! x
