Still Alive Here

Just popping in to say hello. Life is ticking along here. It's been a busy old time filled with all sorts. You know, the usual, sorting out spaces that needed it ages ago, doing some necessary work for our company, keeping a child from tipping over the edge as she faces a big change in schools, losing two stone in weight and inventing a recipe for calorie free chocolate cake. Ya, I wish! Obviously spending too much time by myself has not been good for my own sanity as I drift into the realms of fantasy.

Today I rewarded myself with some sewing time. Not sewing I should be doing, but starting a whole new project. It's been in my brain for a while, and since I have been doing lots of house re-organising some of my fabric got tidied as well. I had a lot of LV charm squares. I knew this already, but handling them made me want to finally go ahead with this idea of mine. So today I did.

I'm really pleased with the way the Sketch stands out against the LV fabrics. I've a bit more to add to it so it gets to an acceptable size but it was a good days work.

Here and there I have been getting a bit more done on my hand quilting projects. And excitingly, himself has been working on my sewing desk. It is going to be so gorgeous. I am really happy with the American Ash I chose for it to be made from. I love the tactile nature of beautiful timber, and that smell when it has been freshly cut. This is going to be the best gift I have ever been given!

And proof that I really have been tackling unsightly chores. I even cleaned that window, and encountered the biggest freaking spider I have in years in the process. No wonder I avoid these tasks!

I'm still busy, but getting more things under control. Helping my child back to a happy confident mindset was the most important thing. No one warns you about this stuff when you have kids! I think I spent most of my childhood (and adulthood for that matter) away with the fairies so change didn't bother me near so much as it does some others.

I'm not back to daily blogging, but I am back more regularly. I missed you all. Missed chatting about what's going on here. Though I am still crap at replying to emails these days. Perfection is not going to be achieved any time soon!

Susan

  2. Thank goodness perfection is not required! In fact, I think it is to be discouraged. But well done in sorting that space!

  11. First things first, welcome back, even if its a bit more sporadic than we're used to, we've all just been a bit spoiled with your daily utterances, so as long as you're sorting your sh*t out, then that the most important thing. Loving you LV quilt, strange that I chose today to start on mine, must be one of those LV kind of days! xxx

  13. Glad the kid's back on a more even keel - mine has had her confidence battered this last school year. Thank god there's only 2 full days left and her next year teacher seems very experienced and on the ball.

    Loving that LV top!

  14. Perfection is very over rated. Just keeping your head above the water is more my style! Glad that things are stabilizing and it is lovely to hear from you.

  15. The quilt is lovely and I'm the the child is adjusting to the changes in her life. I'm like you, change doesn't really bother me but Mr. R...dies not like it!

  16. That quilt is high-impact for being low-volume! I say it counts as "should be doing." :-)

I don't mind spiders outside but they skeeve me right out when they're inside. Yuck. I have a little "gun" that scoops them up and lets me get them safely to the door and keeps them three feet away at all times. lol. The tidy looks awesome, though!

    Nice to see you!

  18. I am glad you are fine. Your quilt is wonderful. I hope your daughter is getting sorted, as the kids get bigger it seems so do their problems, but in the end I am sure that she will be fine because she had such a great mom to help her out.

  21. Ditto. I just realized that the reason I haven't been as diligent in my blog reading and commenting is that you've been gone. Welcome back, if only sporadically. Hope the school stuff gets under control .. it can be so difficult.

  22. When you have finished at Hadley's I'm only a small hop away! I'll take care of any spiders I promise!

Hope the mum/daughter thing works well for both of you - you are such a great mum Susan and both your daughters are lovely and talented. Change is such a tough thing to deal with unless you wander around in fantasyland - see you there!

  23. Perfect is boring. Being real is more important. I love the new top, the stars are lovely and strong.
Change is hard for all ages, but young people with schools etc its very tough. I hope once it all settled she finds it wasn't as bad as she thought.
We forget how much they can worry x

  25. LV is looking fab! It's nice to start a new project sometimes, especially if you've earned it which I think you have! The best thing about this post is that your kids feel that they can come to you and tell you when they're not happy, rather than bottling it up, so you must be doing an awesome job :)

  26. Hello lovely! That quilt is going to be so beautiful! I still remember how awful I felt when I left primary school to go to secondary :( Big hugs all round! xx

  29. Please don't go back to daily blogging! I have so much more time now that I don't HAVE to read all you posts ;-) Seriously though concentrate on your kids. Do you think it's possible for me to keep mine at 4 and <1?

Loved the quilt as soon as I saw it on IG.

  31. Hello again. I've often wondered why when A arrived in my life, he didn't come out carrying a little manual of wisdom and tips to help me help him through life. Some things really do test your mettle as a parent and helping children who have lost some self-confidence, for whatever reason, is tough but so important. Hope you find lots of ways to remind her how wonderful and unique she is in her nature, skills and talents. I hope too that she allows herself to believe that it's not just ok to be her, but great to be her!

Fabulous naughty sewing there Mrs S! Looks like lots of fun to do too!

  38. It's good to "see" you back and great that your life seems a bit more on track again. No-one should ask for perfection, but the bright and LV quilt is VERY close!!

  39. Hi! Glad you're ok, I have a child going 'minstrel'... he hates change, and moving up is not sitting well... The LV and pink quilt looks bloody gorgeous! I have a garage window that has turned green because it hasn't been cleaned in so long - even the window cleaner didn't go there! there was such a big spider walking across it that I saw it from my neighbours garden! A lady walked past the other day and said 'well whoever lives here OBVIOUSLY doesn't clean, imagine what their house is like'!!! Cheek! ((xxx))

  40. It's obviously time you were back if you have taken to cleaning windows!
