Details, Details

I've been stitching little details into my house block. A book to read, a vase of flowers, some daisies, a tuft of grass, a doorknob, and texture to the front path. Just little bits here and there that I hope will help bring the whole block together.

I am trying not to do too much. But still have one big question in my mind. Should I FMQ the rest of the sky? Maybe little circles all tightly packed together. I can't  make up my mind, but I feel it should have stitching to blend in all the seam lines from where I have pieced all the bits together. I somehow feel that machine stitching would be less obtrusive than hand stitching. Opinions?

  1. I'm not sure but I so love all these little details. You are so creative!

  2. Those daisies are cute. I'd worry that the pebble style quilting would be too much would a gentle side to side pattern that makes gradual drops down be more air-y? I'd show you an example of what I mean but I don't think I have a picture and the proejct I did it on has gone off to a magazine...

  6. I love all the details! Could you try trailing thread over the sky to get an impression of what stitching would look like?

  7. Loving all your details! I wonder if you could do some wispy cloud tendrils in the sky - I couldn't find a picture that matched what I have in my head, but something like this - http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https://buymywardrobe-images.s3.amazonaws.com/photo-7d5586fa6b3f4aca14b83efdb9896fdbfb2de282-1000.jpg&imgrefurl=https://www.buymywardrobe.com/product/2715-8276&h=1000&w=667&sz=109&tbnid=vTwggHoUXsy4ZM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=60&zoom=1&usg=__WPYat0lxNKUV2pJxvxTed-ZPFAs=&docid=t3-AngoM3VrhtM&itg=1&hl=en&sa=X&ei=51ovUZ6LFtC10QWU54DYCA&ved=0CDEQ9QEwAQ&dur=376 but a little subtler perhaps.

  8. Would like to see the whole block again to decide, but your hand stitching is always so amazing, I don't think you'll go wrong with whatever you decide. Stunning details, Jxo

  9. I think piecing is surprisingly invisible from more than about 6" away (easily forgotten when you're spending most of your time 6" away from your piecing). I'd be inclined to leave it, it's nice to have a bit of clean space to offset all the detail.

  10. Those daisies are perfect - I love all the detail you're adding Susan and it will bring it to life and make it more 3 dimensional.

  11. Maybe some wavy bubbling clouds, but not tight bolder-size hail stones!
    Love the embroidery xxx

  12. Horizontal lines, longest stitch, half inch spacing, not in / on the clouds. Now get your finger out and clean the hob ;-) x

  15. Although I love your hand stitching, I'd go with the more subtle machine quilting.

I am SO in love with your little special details like the grass and the flowers. You're so darn cute!

  18. Good grief that is cute!!! I love the daisies especially (my favourite!!) but haven't a clue about your sky. So I'm as much use as a chocolate fireguard!

  21. This is so cute! How about doing the sky with little curly swirls, randomly spaced here and there? I did this on a baby quilt and I really liked the results.

  22. I think I'd need to see the whole thing to get an idea of how the sky should look, but the rest is looking fab

  24. the details are amazing. and I thought it had lots of detail before you started your hand stitching. I forget what the question is about the sky but I think whatever stitching you do would look good in white. can't wait to see what it looks like. what are you doing with this?

  25. Full sized shot please!

I suspect it may need something but fear that the bubble quilting might be too much so let's have a shifty please!

  26. I love it! I would maybe hold off on the sky at the risk of making too much of it - maybe some bird v shapes? You know how kids draw flying birds in the sky? Less is more? I'm sure it will look fab whatever you do - it's perfect
