Silly Suggestions

I have two sick kids at home today. And a sick car. Oh happy me! Having spoken to a variety of garages said car is now booked in to be fixed. Meanwhile, I still  have two sick girls. Who were getting bored. Because they were too sick for school but not sick enough to lay in bed all day dosing and leaving me in peace.

So there I was, happily starting to cut fabric for my Stitch Tease block that I need to make for Danny - Mommy for Reals.

This photo should scare the crap out of Danny.
All that dark fabric.
Oh Danny, you'll find out what I have done in 12 months time. Ha!

Next thing I know Emily wanted an idea of something to do and I suggested make something. Never did the words fabric and sewing cross my lips but before you could say 'boo' I was no longer cutting for me but cutting and pressing for Em. What on earth was I thinking when I suggested she 'make something'?! She wants to do a stack and whack quilt. I am sure that those two girls of mine must have about a dozen projects on the go. They are more adept at creating WIPs than I am!

Emily's favourite fabric ever is that dragonfly fabric.
We are almost finished the yardage I bought.
She is going to be devastated when it is done.

So with little happening here constructively today - for me at least - I thought I would tell you that I have my courses for the FQ Retreat. Thanks so much to the Fat Quarterly team - Tacha in particular - because I completely stuffed up filling in the form for class preference and managed to put them in the opposite order of how I wanted them. Therefore I got quite a shock when I looked at what classes I had and they were all from the bottom of my list. Tacha to the rescue and now I have Portholes, Clasp Purses, Freezer Paper Piecing and the FQ Design Challenge. Phew! Things I really wanted to do. Happy me!

And do you remember the problems I had with my original Go! Baby so many months ago? (Brief summary - the actual Go! was showing big signs of wear and the cutting mat looked like it had been attacked by a rottweiller after minimal use.) Well, I thought you deserved a little bit of an update. Because I have used my new Go! Baby, that was sent as a replacement, on a fairly regular basis since that drama and want to tell you that everything seems so much better. I have cut more with the new Baby and cutting mat than I ever did with the first one and the difference in wear is noticeable. Extremely so.

I am finding it hard to get a photo that shows the difference
between the original chewed up mat and the present one.
You can see the bowing, and how it is warped out of shape
compared to the current mat.
What you can't see are the cracks, and bits where the plastic has
actually fallen apart and left gaps.
Suffice to say those problems no longer exist.
And I have nothing else to report. Just waiting for bed time. How sad is that?!

Susan

  3. I hope the girls are better tomorrow and you can concentrate on your own WIPs/UFOs!! Good to hear that your new go cutter is better than the first!

  4. Oh my. So sorry they are feeling yucky again. But it does sound fun to be able to share your hobby just a little bit. My guys only come up with more reasons for me to make for someone else...they don't often help in the process. It sounds like they might need their own machine soon.

  15. If I was one of your daughters I wouldn’t be rushing to go back to school. Haven’t you learned that you make it as boring as possible when children have sick days. That way they’re busting to get back to having some fun at school with their mates !

Example: Toilet cleaning is boring. Craft projects are not.

Im glad your go cutter mat is behaving itself. You must have got a lemon the first time around.

  18. I have two of the same classes but mine are in a different order so I am guessing we are in different times. I think it is great that your girls like to sew and I hope they keep it up their whole lives, but I hope they feel better soon.

  22. Oooh you are going to be fighting for time on the machine now, but how cool that the girls are interested in sewing.
Thanks for the update on the Go Baby, amazing the difference between the two.
