I did a few tasks for himself as well. That left me... well... not much time for sewing. But I did do a little bit on the Terrain HSTs. And in the process of pressing some fabric prior to cutting it I realised that I had received a shipment of fabric from Brenda at Pink Castle Fabrics and not told you about it. So here is a quick peek at what I received before I ask for some opinions on how to finish the Terrain quilt.
A lovely charm pack of Aneela Hooey's A Walk In The Woods Some of this will destined to be fussy cut into my favourite fabrics quilt. |
Some stash building Half Moon scissors. |
A layer cake of Salt Air for Cosmo Cricket. Luscious colours! |
And more stash building with some California Dreamin' yardage. The pink on the left will be used for the Somewhere Over the Rainbow charm swap. The pink on the right has just been cut and some of it used in the Terrain quilt. No plans for the green, yet! |
Here's the part where I need your help. My original plan had been to add another navy blue border and then bind it in another colour, not the pink. But not the green used for demonstration purposes below.
But I've gone off this idea now. I am thinking that it would be too much of a good thing. So should I add another border of the navy solid and then bind it in the navy as well. Or should I stop now and bind it in the navy and be done?
Wider border of the navy or... |
... just a navy binding? |
Anyone any ideas? All help is appreciated as always! Thank you.
Susan
Lovely fabrics! And my vote goes for either another navy border or just bind it now. Too much more may start to be a distraction. Though as lovely as it I can't see that happening!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, I am asking for binding help today too! I love this quilt, and all the options are great. If it were me, I would be inclined to take off the pink, leave just the navy border and bind it with the navy so the edge is just an continuation of the neutral, but I do love the pink too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day you've had! Goodness they'll keep you busy, won't they?
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for two blue borders, one pink and a binding of a different color. I'm not sure I'm gone on the green...would have to see the quilt in full to really get an idea of what color the final border should be. Honestly, Susan, you can't go wrong it's so pretty.
Poor Helen! I am jealous of your fabric delivery! I think a second navy border and then bind it in navy :)
ReplyDeleteThis isn't going to help but for me plan A - 1 pink, 2 navy and green binding, for me makes the main quilt pop!
ReplyDeleteI would either add a navy boarder and navy binding or like Leanne suggested, have a completely neutral border and binding.
ReplyDeleteAnother round of navy and then scrappy binding.
ReplyDeleteI'd go for a navy border followed by a scrappy binding with lots of colours in it - but not sure if you have any left from Terrain. I still like the green though. Jxo
ReplyDeleteanother border of navy and then bind it in another bright colour or better still lots of bright colours - scrappy terrain colours joined together. Although I appreciate that what I'd do is probably not what anyone else would do and as I haven't read the other comments you may have already had the best brilliant idea of the day :-)
ReplyDeleteI really like that extra navy border and either purple or scrappy binding. It'll look great regardless of what you decide!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the picture with the caption "just a navy binding?". Chic and simple after all the HST's.
ReplyDeleteAlthough on navy border and a scrappy binding would be cute too!
Oh, it's so pretty! I'm liking the combination of two navy borders with the pink. Here's my two cents on the binding ... go scrappy (it may be more work this way, but I think it will complement things nicely).
ReplyDeleteHave fun, Susan!
I am with Judith...a wide navy border and then a scrappy binding. I finally got round to changing my profile pic....new haircut is included now.
ReplyDeletenavy border and bind it. It looks absoulutely stunning. Glad Helen is starting to feel better, even if only for half a day!
ReplyDeleteWell I`m always in the minority but you know I love colour! I love Helen`s idea actually and I also love the navy framed with the green binding. I expect you`ll go with your heart and seemingly the majority and opt for the navy border and navy binding but I think the coloured binding would really make the Terrain pop! Good luck - the HSTs are lovely and I don`t think you can really go wrong :0))
ReplyDeleteExactly what Annabella said!
ReplyDeleteoh poor Helen, :( have you thought about aranging for half days for her? Just a thought :) Lovely fabrics, I'm trying to ignore them, I'm trying NOT to buy at the moment (yeah I know!) as for the conundrum - navy border, navy binding, let the pink and terain sing for itself :) (though scrappy would be lovely)
ReplyDeleteI don't normally go for that shade of green but, actually, I think the green binding really makes the colours sing, but it will be beautiful, whatever you choose!
ReplyDeleteGood haul of fabrics :) Tne terrain quilt is looking amazing. I would put another blue border on and then bind in pink, but I like things BRIGHT ;0)
ReplyDeleteYay for fabric loveliness arriving :o)
ReplyDeleteAs for the borders/binding, I'd go with the pink border and navy binding - the pink helps it pop, I think the extra wider navy bit would close it back in again a bit (if you see what I mean)
Oooh fabby. Navy border then bind in Navy. Love the post! Still waitin on mine :-(
ReplyDeleteI also totally agree with Annabella!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the additions to your stash :)
Looking fabulous, I'd go with the navy border and love the idea of scrappy binding, if you have enough fabric left over. If not, navy binding would look fantastic too.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go for (or at least try!) another navy border and then binding in the pink. Or another bright colour, maybe orange? Whatever you choose is going to be great! And I love your new fabric!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabrics especially the scissors. I would vote for another navy border and pink or scrappy binding.
ReplyDeleteim going with the flock for another navy border!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Helen! I hope everyday is a little better than the last! The binding debate continues! I like the navy/pink border only. Then could you add a thin aqua binding? that's my two bobs worth!
ReplyDeletePink border, navy binding - sorted x
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the other comments yet so as not to be biased-- I like the green idea, but looking at the first photo (where you are now) and then seeing the other "audition possibilities, I thought maybe the slightly bolder green print with the circles on it would make another nice border with the navy binding. At any rate, the quilt is wonderful whatever you decide! Don't stress too much-- if you're not on a deadline, take some time and let it "simmer". Love all your new fabrics-- esp. Walk in the Woods (I'm on a big Aneela Hooey kick right now).
ReplyDeleteOoh you know I love green - so I'd be going another round of navy then green binding or the scrappy!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with whatever you choose and hugs to Helen but gently so it doesn't hurt!
I loved that California Dreaming range from the moment I saw it. I never did buy any though. I bought enough Picnic Parade (the next collect Janean Morrison did ) to sink a battle ship.
ReplyDeleteIm the lone voice in the wind . I wouldn't do a second navy border.
I like the idea of letting it simmer for a bit.

Bind it now!!! Its gorgeous Susan...
ReplyDeleteKeera x
i'd do another navy border and then bind in navy - it'll frame your gorgeous quilt beautifully
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the extra navy border to finish it off, but I think another coloured binding makes it look busy and takes away from the HSTs. I like your idea of the extra navy border with the navy binding.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving how this turned out - it reminded me of the CBC logo made of triangles instead of half circles.
So Canadian of you :)
I think I'll need to go buy some navy fabric now.
I'd add the 2nd navy border... then bind in either green or pink.
ReplyDeleteHope your sicky is on the mend. Mine is school for another day or two at a minimum...
