I Made Something!

And I can show you. And it is completed before it's deadline of tomorrow, when the recipient shall receive it for her birthday. One cushion, which I hope makes the birthday girl happy. Helen gave her seal of approval on the 'quilt as you go' panel while it was in construction, so I think I'm okay here. But, why oh why, when you ask a child what her favourite colour is does she always say purple? Do children instinctively know this is the colour we all have least of in our stashes? Is it a conspiracy?

Despite nice purple fabrics being a rare commodity around here, I am pleased with the fabrics I managed to pull. I made the quilt as you go panel 16" square and then put a dark purple Kona solid around it to frame it and accentuate the purples that were in there. I backed it with green corduroy, with a simple envelope closure.

Now just need to pop out and purchase an insert so I can remove one of my own cushions from its insides, and find a gift bag big enough to fit it in. Job done!

  1. Loving it Susan. When I was her age purple and lime green were my favorite too. Well, I say her age but it took me until I was 40 to grow out it and into blue!!

  10. Very nice, missus! I also am purple deficient. But after hunting high and low for purple fabrics to make a bedroom quilt a few years ago I came to the conclusion that it's a very under represented colour!

  14. That is gorgeous, I'm sorry I won't get to see it in person. I have always loved purple but refrain from wearing now because it is an old lady color. I just need to wait a few more years. Haha

  19. Beautiful! Had to laugh as I'm in about the same boat when it comes to the colour purple - I thought it was a conspiracy by Pantone for choosing the colour of the year (as every year they choose a colour I have little or any of! lol).

  25. Nobody has much purple. Very few ranges have good purples. And it's not just colours people pick you haven't got. A friend wants me to make her a lap quilt. I'm on a fabric diet and asked her what sort of patterns she likes - thinking more quilt patterns - she says: Polkadots and stripes. I have none! lol
