... there will come a day when you come to see what I have been up to and you find me in a quivering heap in the corner. The latter part of 2012 was not exactly stellar. We got through it. Onwards and upwards, and all that stuff.
So imagine my face when I received not one, but two emails from the school today. One to inform parents that head lice have made a come back. Oh joy! Always a fun nightly ritual to see if any critters have landed in unwelcome territory. But to make it even more fun, the second email informed parents that ringworm had also been diagnosed in a pupil. Really? Really! No one, absolutely no one, warns you about this stuff when you decide to become a parent. I dearly hope that for once in their lives my children manage to avoid getting whatever is going round.
Meanwhile, I did housework today. Please try not to faint in shock. Even I have to give in eventually. As a reward I allowed myself to do a little fabric cutting.

Curious what I am up to? Maybe I will get it laid out this weekend and be able to show you. Maybe I will be outside playing in snow. We will find out if the weatherman is correct in the next 24 hours.
Susan
ringworm is worse than it sounds - it's only a fungal infection. No worms involved, promise.
ReplyDeleteHope you are nit free *shudder*
The joys of parenthood are sometimes yucky. I am so grateful that my children never experienced head lice.
ReplyDeleteYou've piqued my curiosity with these new fabrics. Housework - hmm, how does one do that? ;D
Enjoy the weekend.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you will not be buying a nit comb nor be running to the pharmacy for anti-fungal cream. Meanwhile, happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope you have an uneventful weekend with lots of snow to play and no "suprises" in the health front.
ReplyDeleteOh God I remember the incessant lice problem. My daughter once went to ski camp - 16 girls in a dormitory and every single one of them came back with lice. Apparently they don't like hair dye, but then you probably don't want to dye the girls' hair. We had mothers here who did just because they couldn't stand it any more!!
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to mention - one of mine once had a tapeworm too!!
ReplyDeleteI have had ringworm, it is gross. Is it bad that I wish I had a tapeworm, for diet purposes? ;-)
ReplyDeleteMust be something in the water, I also did a bit of housework today!!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for avoiding the nasties and I am scratching already.x
Oh I love this letters from school. Hope you did not find any of these two things and have a nice weekend
ReplyDeleteYou gotta wonder why we like to throw kids together when things like this come up. Hope you stay healthy and if I were you I'd break out the tea tree shampoo...Head pets don't like that stuff :o)
ReplyDeleteSome friends telephoned this morning and said they were calling round to see us this afternoon........ guess what I was doing all morning, yep the same as you!! xxx
ReplyDeleteHmmm - haven't encountered either yet but I guess I have those joys to come! Look forward to seeing what you are up to!
ReplyDeleteOh my. My youngest has had head licd twice. Not fun. Would be worse in a girl with long hair. Praying that it is not an issue for you.
ReplyDeleteMaybe really cold weather kills ringworm and lice!? Encourage vigorous and extended bouts of snow play- you may win a Nobel Prize for medicine from your discovery. (I'll give most off the credit to you!!!)
ReplyDeleteEurggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhh! I can't even read the other answers, I don't want to know, it makes me want to vomit! And you're "tripping", aren't you??!! : )
ReplyDeleteKids, got to love 'em, it's the law or something xxx
ReplyDeletePlenty of hair conditioner and vigorous hand washing in your household then! I too subscribe to the reward yourself to sewing philosophy. Di x
ReplyDeleteAh the joys of it all, but then I get the double whammy - being a teacher. So I live in fear of what my children may bring home but also of what my student may give me and oh boy have they given me som GREAT bugs over the years...there are times I want to rope my desk off and wear a mask, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou can spot the parents from the non parents by the comments. Neither are great but not hard to get rid of. My kids have had the letters several times over the years, but never ever the bugs so you have a good chance of escaping with just a warning. Good on you to do housework.
ReplyDeleteIf they ever get head lice. Can you get tea tree oil there? A bottle of very cheap conditioner, mix in a teaspoon or two of tea tree oil. Slather the conditioner all over every bit of hair. Pile it all up on top of their head and then wrap child in cling wrap. Lol. Wrap the hair in cling wrap, it makes for a nice look. The idea is to smother the little buggers, the head lice not the kids. Leave on for at least half an hour, then rinse or wash off. Repeat a week later. Dont forget to repeat it. It's much easier and safer than the horrible , disgusting chemical filled crap which you can get from the chemist and ruins your hair. Top tip., if the girls do get head lice, treat your hair as well. Odds are you won't have them, but you'll at least know that when you talk about head lice and youre scalp states itching, which mine is doing now, you know you don't have those little critters scurrying around on your head. Good luck with the ring worm too.
ReplyDeleteAm hoping the weather man is wrong as I don't have time to re-schedule any of my appts if the schools close, but also hoping, that if the schools do close, that I will get some additional sewing time!
ReplyDeleteUrhhhh, you've made me itch! Hope you are bug free x
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Don't forget to check Himself's hair and get the girls to inspect yours! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Housework? Are you ill?! Fancy coming and doing mine now?
Oh ugh. I can highly recommend the Nitty Gritty comb and lots of conditioner - no need for nasty chemicals, and it really does work - just need to go through their hair evry 2-3 days for a week or so. I think I could cope with the ringworm - but tapeworm? (shudders). I didn't do any housework today - it would have been impossible whilst DH is decorating wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteDoh! I also meant to say I wondered if you were doing a crosses quilt like Pippa of Pippa's patch?
ReplyDeleteI'll take housework over the little critters any day! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteDon't talk to me about head lice! With 3 girls I'm expert in it! I hope the girls stay well clear of it! Jxo
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is - yikes!
ReplyDeleteEeeww, ick and ewwwwwwww *shudder*. Seriously. Thanks for that. I'll have nightmares...
ReplyDeleteGoodluck, hope you get your snow!
So glad lice never made the rounds of our school, but I do remember a girl getting worms - ugh! Happy reward sewing, think you need the fortification!
ReplyDeleteThe first time the lice came to visit us the neighborhood kids who had it didn't bother to tell us until 6 out of 7 of us were infested. It was miserable, horrible, nasty. yuk! I hope it passes you by this time.
ReplyDeleteAh the joys - NOT!! I too have succumbed to the idea of housework this week, I'm sure it'll wear off once the new year enthusiasm passes.
ReplyDeleteDid you say housework? I left that behind ages ago :) xx
ReplyDeleteArgh! The damn head lice. They LOVE my daughter. Luckily she knows the signs and the second her head itches we're in there with the chopstick and headlamp. The last few outbreaks we've been able to catch early and avoid anything really nasty (like chemical shampoo or an infestation). I feel your momma pain!
ReplyDeleteRe: housework. We have SO much in common. Looking foward to London even more!
Since we didn't see any evidence of housework , Im having a hard time believing you lost your mind to the extent that you did some. Have you gone barking mad?
ReplyDeleteMy son began school last year and within his first 4 weeks he got a horrible infestation of headline. Yucky! My daughter had it a couple of years ago, for 3 months!! Poor bugger. We could not kill them with anything. They are becoming resistant to chemicals so found this new Australian natural product, wormwood oil I think. It finally worked. Otherwise I was gonna have to douse her head with kerosene. I call housework washing the dishes. That's enough for me, get that done and can reward myself with some fabric time!
