Miss October

I am so excited. Round two of Brit Bee has got off to an incredible start. When I signed up for the bee I was a bee virgin - so to speak - and actually had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was quickly established that joining up was the best quilty decision I ever made. And I got my Drunkard's Path quilt out of it which I love, love, love.

So what do I do for round two? Well, I looked at the first round and thought about things that I loved, and learned. I didn't know before we started that everyone could make a different block under the parameters set by the queen bee of the month. I didn't know about solids used in quilting. I didn't know about paper piecing. Quite frankly, I didn't know a lot.

What I do know now is that I want my bee buddies to each make a different block. I want a dark solid for the background. I want the colour palette to be more controlled than in my last quilt, though still bright and modern.

Above are some of the quilts created in the inaugural year of Brit Bee. As you can tell this is a very inspiring group. Below are a  mix of star blocks that have been made in the bee. (Are you starting to see my theme here?)

I have posted out a tonne of fabric because I have left it up to each individual to piece a star, or two, of their choice from as small as 6" to a maximum of 24". The background will be Kona Coal.

Ultimately, I took my inspiration directly from the skill and ideas of my fellow Brit Bee buddies. And then I combined it with this quilt I happened upon, below.

This quilt was created by the lady who blogs here. Her blog is in German but her sewing is amazing, and her sewing space to die for.

And that is what I have asked from the Brit Bee group this time. Stars, on Kona Coal, in varied sizes. I know that I will end up with blocks that I never would have come up with on my own. And that is one of the thrilling things about being in a bee.

Before I sign off, Emily has asked me to introduce you to Tips. Tips joined our household this weekend. It is a long story. I will tell it some other time but for now - meet Tips.
