What Was I Thinking?!

It seemed like a good idea when it was just that, an idea lurking in the furthest reaches of my brain.

Yes, why don't I just stitch in the ditch around all the little HR bits of fussy cut and turn the quilt every two inches? And then do five rows of straight line stitching around each rectangle in the white bits (more freaking turning of the quilt)? And to top it off why not fill in all the blue bits with FMQ in a pebble(ish) type of quilting? Why not?

Because I do like to torture myself.

But, I do think that it will look good when it's done. Sort of like child birth, I will forget all the pain. Not that I ever managed to birth a child. Failed at that spectacularly. The two of them would still be looking for the exit if we had left it up to them!

Time to step away from the sewing machine. And I am not quite as deranged as I sound. Just joking. Really, I am!

  4. That is a massive project, but it will look amazing once it's all done. And if it's anything like childbirth, I understand you forget the pain once you see the beautiful end product, I'm sure :-)

  7. I think your plans are all wonderful for the quilt, but not fast. I love how the pebbles look when they are done but they are so slow along the way. Can't wait to see the end result.

  12. Ha ha this does look like torture to do but it is very pretty to look at! It will definitely be worth it in the end. Much like childbirth ... although those who say that you just forget what *that* is like must be missing a significant part of their brain....

  13. Some of my mostest favourite people are deranged! You're only slightly nuts. *g* But you KNOW this will be gorgeous - and after using all those hoarded fabrics you can't shortchange it on the quilting, can you?

P.S. I had a natural, no pain relief birth and SWEAR dislocating my shoulder was more painful. But I've found out in the last 11 years I'm a minority on that and keep my gob shut about it now!

  15. Hated pebble quilting the first time I did it - would rather have cut my leg off than do it again ! And yet I did and relaxed and it sort of did it itself.

Keep going it is looking good - breathe in, slurp, breathe out, slurp (glass of wine!)

  18. Nothing worth it comes easy, apparently!! And don't try and defend your mental health, I think we all know it's on a knife edge, but isn't it for most of us ;o)

  23. Please show more of this soon. I need help :)
I made a quilt with 20 log cabin blocks and a white 4" square in the centre of each block in which I did some pretty little embroideries. 2 different width borders to finish it. I had no idea how to quilt this so I have gone with meandering the log cabins and not touching the 4" squares yet. I might do the straight lines around the wide border and pebbling around a narrower border, but only if I can see yours first for help. It is so difficult to know how to quilt even though people say that the inspiration will come from the quilt itself. My tops don't speak to me - well I don't understand their language anyway.

  26. The pain will never be forgotten but you get something special! Just because you can and you wanted to. This quilt will make you smile every time you look at it because you did it and it looks amazing! You can do it!

  27. Having had the pleasure of giving birth naturally and having the torture of having a baby ripped out of me I can assure you that the pain of this quilt should be forgotten quite quickly if it's like childbirth! (And will be worth every single turn x)
