I am loving these panels! I went a bit crazy and bought a whole stack of HR fabrics last year but haven't cut into them as, like you, some are just fragments and I'll only get one chance at getting it right. The 2" square cuts, or multiples thereof, is genius. That'll be just right. Are you thinking of bordering each panel? Or will you sew them together for one big 'collage' look? Can't wait to see what you decide. Well done so far.
