... is his castle. Then my
castle has been developing a moat! Yup, more rain folks and on this rain sodden ground round here there is nowhere for it to go. So I am once again surrounded by water. The school run begins shortly. Hope my wellies are in the house and not the garage!
But it is not all doom and gloom round here. In my
sewing dining room there is a rosy glow. It is being cast by the new light shade I bought yesterday for the princely sum of £3.50. It is helping me get in the correct seasonal mood, no matter what the weather outside.

Don't you love it?! |
And while I watched the water levels rise I sewed. I started making two more small Christmas presents. Candle mats - or mug rugs, I suppose, if the person prefers - and I am rather happy with progress so far. Some more hand stitching and the bindings to be done, then these will be complete.
Hope you can get to your car without your wellies on today. Imagine if all this precipitation was snow? Makes my Canadian heart beat faster at the very thought.

aieeee - that's a puddle and a half :-/
ReplyDeleteGoodness that's a lot of water and a very funky light shade! Enjoy paddling!
ReplyDeleteat least you didnt have to dig it !! hope your feet kept dry ...........candle mats sound more up market :))) than mug rugs look good though !!
ReplyDeleteWe have puddles too - may need to swap my shortie wellies for galoshes!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your extended Christmas!!
I so need to buy a pair of wellies for a couple of reasons (1) cause here in the states they have some super cute ones - polka dot, leopard, etc and (2) so I can use the word wellies and have people look at me funny. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your new shade. It would fit in perfectly here in northern Canada. Another 5 cm of snow fell yesterday! Very Christmasy!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry I have to reprimand you for putting up a festive decoration before November has ended! ;)
ReplyDeleteHope your puddles disappear soon.
Oh my stars!! Just a bit of water then?? The weather is taking the piss out of me here - have had the sofa covers out & trying to get them dry before we move out. No panic then??
ReplyDeleteWill have to bring them in & crank up the heat :/
Love the Christmas gifts. I have just packed my machine away so there will be no more sewing for at while now.
Hope there aren't any crocodiles in your moat! I love the lampshade (very festive!) and the star mats!
ReplyDeleteJust think how festive it would be if it WAS snow instead of the wet stuff! And then you could make a real snowman. My Canadian heart beats faster thinking about that too!!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I must wear sensible shoes on saturday. Or bring a dingy.
ReplyDeleteLove the mug rugs, very cute! It's rained most of the day here, but as i've been "spring" cleaning the kitchen it hardly mattered I suppose. Enjoy your wade to fetch the kids! : )
ReplyDeleteOh my that's some rain, it reminds me why I left the UK, .....Love your candle mats. Hugs
ReplyDeleteLOL - It must be the Canadian in us...I've been telling everyone I've met today..."Be grateful...it's not SNOW!" :o)
ReplyDeleteI must admit the water levels are quite impressive around here too..Hope you managed the school run ok!
I know about water - was out in it with pup this morning! We were wet and muddy by the time we got home...
ReplyDeleteHope it doesn't come in the house - got the sandbags at the ready??
I'm on the Canadian Prairies and it's raining just now but the weather office has issued a heavy snowfall warning - yeppers, snow on top of ice! After whining about our weather ... I don't envy you all that rain and water. I absolutely love your candle mats/mug mats - they are gorgeous!! Your prints and red stitching absolutely POP out of the white fabric - swell idea. I love your snowman lampshade.
ReplyDeleteRain, what's that? It looks like a soon to be muddy mess.
ReplyDeleteYour pretty stars and hand stitching are great.
Stay dry my dear and don't slip in that water.
Enjoy your rain. We are at -13C and that is the day's predicted high. There was snow last night and more to come later this week, although some of that accumulated melted last week on a warm - +1C day.
ReplyDeleteI love the stars and the hand stitching.
Your kids can play Peppa Pig today! Muddy Puddles! Yeah
ReplyDeleteThe up side is at least yours won't freeze! At home we have snow, 45 minutes south of us they have...rain and the temps are dropping. I'd gladly trade in my sorel boots for wellies!
ReplyDeleteYour candle mats are exquisite my dear, and your hand stitching is, as always, perfection :)
Keep dry. How are the chickens feeling?
yuck! I'm sending some sunshine to you from Hawaii, I hope it makes it there soon!! Lovely Christmas stars.. sigh, your projects always inspire me and add a million projects to my list - that handstitching gets me every time :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Deborah on the reprimand - put that finger down!! It was raining when I was at yours - seems it has been raining ever since. Lovely starry mats btw.
ReplyDeleteHolly Molly that is a lot of water!!!!. Good excuse to sew a bit extra!!!.
ReplyDeleteI wish it was snow, that would be so much more fun. Hope it doesn't rise any further for you. Love the sneak peeks
ReplyDeleteAll that water is not doing damage to the foundations, I hope! Your mug rugs look lovely! But your stitching always does that!
ReplyDeletePaddling pool! NO to snow! Will bring Lilo just in case of sun!
ReplyDeleteI hope that the pool doesn't get any bigger! The mug rugs are very Christmasy. Di x
ReplyDeleteOh no, hope the rain stops short of entering your house! Love your 8 point stars -so festive, but am jealous of your happy snowman shade! Enjoy his warm glow!
ReplyDeleteWishing you some sunshine to match your rosy glow light.
ReplyDeleteLove those Xmas stars.
How cool to have your own moat:) Hope it doesn't get too much worse though - love the snowman globe and those christmas stars are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHope you found your wellies!
ReplyDeleteIt's very squelchy up here too.
Love the pretty stitching on your stars :)
Oh my! That's ALOT of water! Definitely a stitching day! Jxo
ReplyDeleteRain like that is simply demanding that you stay inside, and if you happen to have some sewing just hanging around... Who are you to argue with the fates?
ReplyDeletePS - I like the idea of making candle mats rather than mug rugs! I've never gotten the mug rug craze (why not just use a coaster? It's less lumpy) but my dad taught me from a young age that you shpuld always place your candle on top of something. I like this!
E
You can certainly send some of your rain to me. Love your little mug rugs. Very festive.
ReplyDeleteEeek, that is a lot of rain! Hope it stops soon! I'd have problems even getting out the house if we had puddles like that, I don't own any wellies!
ReplyDeleteYIKES that's quite a puddle indeed. You won't want to know that we had a high of 36 degrees yesterday then will you ;)
ReplyDeleteI smile at all your blogs...and think how nice to be a fly on your crafty wall watching all the sunshiney things you make....you show photos of puddles... but i see sunshine...( and perfect points)
ReplyDeleteAt least it is too cold in your neck of the woods for mosquitos!
Your stitching is so pretty. What thread do you use? Hope the rain stops and you see the sun again .. in the meantime, did you find your wellies?
ReplyDeleteAh, we had to get up early this morning as we were woken by torrential hail and the road outside looking like a river, when will it ever end.....
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile your post is looking a lot like Christmas!
We never get that much rain in South Australia! Well rarely. Does it snow a lot where you live in UK or just occasional snow falls?
ReplyDeleteFriggin rain is giving me SAD! Love your Christmassy stitching.
