On first inspection it doesn't look too bad.
One zip end is pretty good. But the other one is the dog's dinner.
I wanted this pouch to be useful for my partner's hand sewing projects. So I made two pockets inside to hold a mini needle book and pin cushion.
I'll admit I am happy with this bit. And I like the white spotty lining that would allow my partner to see what was in the interior more easily. Over all you would think the pouch was okay.
But it isn't. It isn't just that botched zip end. It isn't just because I have decided I hate the proportions. It is that when I went to press the pouch after sewing the first inner and outer pieces to the zip something came off the iron. Something that wasn't there when I used it earlier. Something that did not come from ironing quilters cotton, or the shirts for himself. Something that the girls deny all knowledge of. I am not pleased!
I got some of the crud off but how on earth do I get the rest off? And do I have enough time to make another, seeing as how I am swanning off to Milton Keynes momentarily to shop, not spend the say sewing?
Oh yes, and apparently Blogger no longer supports my browser - Internet Explorrer 9. That is why I can't post as I usually would and have had to resort to the old system. Well fine! It says I have to have Chrome. What are the differences? I have heard some people comment that they weren't thrilled with Chrome. My IT man is not home. Hell, my brain is going to explode. I'm going shopping!
The creative gremlins are everywhere at the moment...don`t beat yourself up about the zipper end. Do what you have to do Susan. I`m sure it`s not as bad as you think but if you hate it, you do have time. I still haven`t received my linen and so if it doesn`t turn up today, it`s time for plan B. Good luck and have a great time in MK at B.ReplyDelete
Deep breath in ......... and slowly out.ReplyDelete
Your pouch is wonderful :-) Could you wash it? or perhaps gently rub the affected area with a damp cloth?
If not, remake it. You are swap boss :-) you can do it!
Whatever you choose, glass of wine tonight!
I switched to chrome from IE last year and I love it :-) took a bit of getting used to, but thumbs up from me.
I've moved to Chrome too..really like it.ReplyDelete
As for the pouch..I feel you pain!...such a shame. If I were you..I'd try washing it and if you are still not happy...send your swap partner a note with some chocolate...that will distract her while you make another one...a better one! :o)
Put it on one side, go and do your shopping and see how you feel about it when you get back, it won't be as bad when you have a break from it. I use chrome and have had no problems with it..explorer was forever freezing on me.ReplyDelete
I use firefox now and don't have any of the problems i had with ie.ReplyDelete
I wouldn't worry about the zipper end at all. Not sure about the crud. How about trying some sellotape over it, then pull it off, hopefully pulling some of the crud off? Or put another piece of fabric over then iron to see if the fabric will pick up some of the crud. If you can at least reduce it a bit, I wouldn't re-make.
Stop using IE immediately. Move to Chrome. DO it. Better yet, use Opera. Thats what I use :-)ReplyDelete
How about spot cleaning the crud with a toothbrush? I'm sorry.... I have no useful cleaning tips. You saw what I did to my quilt. I think overall it looks awesome though honey, and who hasnt botched a zipper end or two in their time. Anyone who's that bothered and makes a fuss can go live in a tree...
The zip end just looks like it needs a bit of a poke out with something blunt, as for the iron mark if its something sticky from the bottom of your iron, try scratching it off...I wouldn't worry about it.ReplyDelete
try a chop stick for poking ,i use chrome and find it great after i found out how to use it !!!!ReplyDelete
I'm on chrome and I like. Hardly any blogger probs and works fine. Chill! And the iron marks wont bother me a bit ;-)ReplyDelete
I have no idea about Chrome, I use Safari and love it.ReplyDelete
I couldn't care less about the crud marks, your pouch is awesome and it would be ever so welcome living at my place. I wouldn't worry about the zipper end either, I'd be too busy drooling over the fabric and the hand stitching.
What crud? All I can see is fabulous Heather Ross cuteness everywhere!!! Enjoy MK and worry about it later. Chrome works fine!ReplyDelete
Oh I can top that one!!! The zippy problem that is!! You just won't believe it!ReplyDelete
Okay, I love Chrome, switch, you'll like it - the only PITA is moving your bookmarks, so don't uninstall IE9 until you're sure you have them all (in fact you don't need to uninstall it at all, just set Chrome to be your preferred browser)ReplyDelete
As for the pouch, if spot cleaning doesn't help, how about a ribbon border along the top there to cover it? A chopstick could work that zipper end out too, and the rest of it looks fab!
I don't know if you have them over there, but I have gotten rusty looking water off with a Magic Eraser before (by Mr. Clean). You just have to be careful not to rub it too much and do it is steps so you don't take the colour off the fabric as well.ReplyDelete
The pouch looks great Susan. Take a break from it, have a nice lunch and then tackle it again.
Don't fret! Your pouch is beautiful and the imperfections you see are minor. Perhaps the iron marks can be washed out? Probably you've tried something along those lines already...ReplyDelete
Anyway, shopping therapy should help! Have fun!
I hate it when stuff like that happens.ReplyDelete
Even so, your pouch is wonderful. If I were your partner I would love it to bits.
You definitely should NOT be using IE (it's a terrible browser.) Chrome is what all the cool kids use -- it's the browser of choice for many techy people (I'm a software developer and wouldn't use anything else.) It's fast and slick and doesn't crash.ReplyDelete
I'm in the Mouthy Stitches swap and I would be thrilled to receive this pouch even with its supposed deficiencies.
It's so pretty! Too bad about the iron incident but it's really not that bad and I think anyone would be lucky to get it! Very sad that I missed the sign up for the swap...any chance you guys will do another round?ReplyDelete
I have used Chrome for over a year. It is lovely, just download it and give it a try. You will like it. I am going to try the one Laura recommends, Opera too. Just for alternatives.ReplyDelete
You can fix the zip by taking out the top of the seam and sewing it a tiny bit over so you don't sew over the tab. And I would wash the pouch or at least the stained bit in the sink with a bit of laundry soap. If it comes off, then you are good to go. You used wonderful fabrics and the stitching is wonderful, don't give up on this one. Especially if it is for me.
I love your pouch - all of it! The iron crud looks like it could be fusible web...have you tried ironing it again but with some brown paper between the iron and the pouch to see if it will absorb the nasty? Having said that, I really don't think your partner will mind a mark or two, they'll be too thrilled that they got a wonderful pouch! Have a lovely day.ReplyDelete
I'm not in the swap, but I think your pouch is beautiful! Have you tried baby wipes to get the marks off? They are magic for stuff like that.ReplyDelete
I use Opera at home, and Firefox at work and I like them both. I fell out with IE a long time ago!
I also think shopping followed by a glass of wine souds like just what you need x
I'll have your pouch, crud and all - just slip in a bit of chocolate as a bribe! It is fabulous - don't sweat!ReplyDelete
And BTW have a good shopping spree
I think that if you aren't happy then you shouldn't send it - but I also think you should give yourself a day or two and take the pressure off! Shopping, chocolate and wine would seem to be called for!ReplyDelete
I'm in the same boat. I don't love my pouch, but I don't really have time to redo it.ReplyDelete
I LOVE your pouch, stop crud bashing and just post it to me now! :) Go shop, stop with the stressy knickers and chill with a glass of white stuff :)ReplyDelete
My son, who is a little geeky, likes chrome. I use Firefox, and have no problem with it. It is a free download from your usual search engine, and seems to cope with blogger ok.ReplyDelete
I hate IE. It ate all my emails once, so I lost the lot, read, unread any and everything.
Try the others! you may like. And you do not need to be an expert to download them. Promise!
PS, the pouch is fine, I would rehome it for you any time!
Oh lovely, I have to say owning a very slightly flawed pouch would really make me smile, it's more personal!...I keep thinking about how James used to curse me when he used the iron on his shirts after I'd been bondawebbing - we now have a two iron strategy :)!ReplyDelete
Love the needlebook/pin cushion idea, and am in dire need of a needlebook (I just stick them in my pincushion at the moment!)
Cannot help with the iron mystery but for sure that pouch is stunning I love it (hint hint!) and how cute is the pin cushion?ReplyDelete
Would be loved in my house!
Try a little bit of vanish soap on the stain and give it a gentle rub. I wouldn't worry at all about the zip end. None of us can do perfection, and certainly don't expect it either. I would be delighted to receive this beauty! JxoReplyDelete
Who is the anonymous Mouthy Stitcher, that's what I want to know!ReplyDelete
I think the pouch will be fine with a bit of poking and dabbing! I don't use any of that PC crap - Firefox all the way x
oh what a shame. However, if it's coming to me then the zip end and the iron mark are fine with me. The zip end really doesn't matter and the iron mark will come off eventually and it isn't really that noticable - so send it me :-)ReplyDelete
Do you have magic erasers over there .Can you gently rub the grunge with one of those?ReplyDelete
If you aren't 100% happy with the pouch then maybe you should whip up another one. It sucks though after all your hard work. I love the embroidery on the front and overall , I really like it.
I changed to Chrome about 6 months ago. I don't mind it - but it took some getting used to....
I am a firefox girl but my Oh uses chrome, neither of us has any problems.ReplyDelete
As for the pouch, I would try dabbing and poking! It is far too cute for a do over and I would be happy as to find it posted through my letterbox.
I understand your distress, but it's a pity I'm not in the swap and not your partner because I love the pouch and would want it even if the crud didn't come off. (It's not very noticeable anyway).ReplyDelete
The mini needle book and pin cushion are such a lovely addition.
As for the browser (warning, warning mild geek alert), I've been using Firefox for ages and I can recommend it heartily. I also use Chrome as a kind of secondary browser (e.g. for checking gmail) and it's OK, too. Generally everything is better than IE, although I don't like Opera that much (but this is just personal preference). I tested Safari, too, but I think it's much better if you have a Mac. (geek alert end)
Hi Susan...I just awarded you with the Liebster Award....please check out my post and see what you need to do if you accept itReplyDelete
The pouch still looks lovely Susan and I love the little goodies you have made to go with it! I usually use Firefox but my daughter suggested to use Chrome and it is so much faster - and I could copy my bookmarks over too:)ReplyDelete
deep breath....HOLD....exhale slowly NOW We have embelishment to COVER up things we are not happy with. Your partner will love it ...and if she doesnt she will be nice and not say so. xxx BREATH!! xReplyDelete
It must be a full moon, every crazy is out and so maybe the quilting monsters are attacking. Stay strong, you'll do the right thing.ReplyDelete
And piss on Blogger.
I love your pouch. If I am your partner I will accept it with love and little teeny tiny imperfections. It kind of sums up my sewing - not perfect by a long way - so will be right at home.ReplyDelete
I went over to google chrome when I had so many issues leaving comments. It's not that different from IE except it seems to work more often than not.
Oh dear :( I hope the shopping helped your perspective, as well as all the great comments and suggestions. It would be such a shame to give up on it as it's so pretty!ReplyDelete
I can't even use Chrome because my mac is too old!! I'm on safari!
I love the colours and the details and the little pincushion so much, i can't even see the inperfections. Please just send!!ReplyDelete
