As the kitchen is the main entrance into our house, the kitchen floor is permanently scattered with shoes. Drives me nuts!
So himself said he would build a shelf for our shoes.
Not that it would occur to him to hammer together some bits of MDF and be done with it.
Why use MDF when you can use maple and walnut? Why build something utilitarian when you can make something beautiful.
And now the shoes are tidy, I'm happy and he got to play with wood. The wonderful thing about himself taking up woodwork is he finally, fully understands my fabric obsession. It's a win win situation for me.

We Canadians never rant...do we???? Lol. we're waaaaay too nice for that...lol
ReplyDeletehubby did a great job on it for your shoes!!!
Haha I know that feeling, mine is more related to the 23 pairs of running shoes that belong to someone! After moaning about it he whittled it down to 14 (!!??) and the made himself a little storage unit, I'll tag you in an IG photo of it. Your new storage is stunning, he is one clever man, what's next on his list?
ReplyDeleteGreat looking shelving unit! Kudos to hubby! We are allowed to rant sometimes....especially if it gets a job done!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shoe rack! I fully understand your frustration with lack of built-in closets and basements. We tried to build in as much storage space as possible when we renovated our apartment -- under floor storage, drawers built into steps, and whenever possible multipurpose furniture with hidden storage. A lot of that would have been unnecessary if we only built-in closets! ....Or fewer things....

ReplyDeleteLooking good , pretty and functional too. How much nagging do you think you'll have to do to get the shoes to put on that gorgeous shoe rack?

ReplyDeleteSmall houses, small island, lots of people - including a few Canadians ;) love the shoe rack - I bet it doesn't stay that tiddy though. Ours has become a heap!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I'm such a fan of built in closets! And screen windows. Two of my rant-able subjects. ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful practical shoe shelves, wow! There is never enough storage space in tiny English houses, and Irish are the same...
ReplyDeleteWith you all the way! and why do shoes take up so much space? We all have several essential pairs, and nowhere sane to put them! Yes, we all want one of those! please?
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely, I actually need a new one of those.... The reason there's no storage is because our houses are too damn well small
ReplyDeletewow, a husband who can make things; where do I get one of those?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!!! Any chance he could design something for a ridiculously small porch where there's barely room for you to put on shoes, never mind store them?!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I call a solution!! Beautiful!!!
